Joan Hayden, age 68, of Kahoka, MO, died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 in Keokuk Area Hospital.

Joan was born January 20, 1947 in Keokuk, IA, a daughter of Victor E. and Mary Dorine Briley Young

A 1965 graduate of Kahoka High School, Joan continued her education at Southeastern Community College, graduating from there in 1996.

On April 7, 1968, she was united in marriage to Bill Hayden at the First Baptist Church in Kahoka.

Survivors include her husband, Bill, of the home; three sons: Chad (Lynn) Young of Burlington, Mike Young of Kahoka and Carl Hayden of Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren: Amee Wyatt (Thomas Poole) of Farmington, and children, Katerina, Sera, Gabriel; Jessica (Colt) Simerl of Fulton, and children Lanie, Ryan and Cooper, Ashley (Justin) Reed of Keokuk, and children Madyson, Kailee, and Peyson, Amber (Coyte) Todd of West Point, and children Brooklyn and Kiley, Stephanie Young of Macomb, Emilee (Kevin) Kottenstette of Fort Madison, and daughter, Aubree; Kimberly House (Corey) Fox of Wayland, and children, Johnny and Hunter, and Summer Hayden of Corpus Christi; Amber, Stephanie and Emilee’s mother, Bobbi Marshall of Fort Madison; step grandchildren: Matt Tansey, Caleb, Derrick, and Ryun, Brandon Tansey and Emma, Genera Tansey, Kyle and Mickenzie, all of Burlington, and Kyler Engen of Oquawka; a brother, William (Brenda) Young of Kahoka; six sisters: Vickie (Donnie) Burks, Ruby (Dodie) Simmons, Evelyn O’Day, Ava Carter, Diana Sommers (Steve) Toben, all of Kahoka, and Rita (Vaughn) Barry of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Mary (John) McDaniel of Kahoka; special family friend, Dennis Regan of Kahoka; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Hayden in 1988; two brothers, Victor Young, Jr and Samuel Eugene Robison; a sister, Sandra Ringenburg; and two brothers-in-law, Gary Simmons and Floyd Sommers.

Joan had a caring heart that went well with her job as a CNA at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka. She enjoyed her work there until her health no longer made it possible. What she lacked in health she more than made up for in her personal ministry of sending cards to others in the church and community. It made the day brighter for those who were lucky to be a recipient. She was also the “go to” person when someone had a problem, needed prayer, or someone just to listen. She always had time for others.

Joan was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Kahoka and also of the V.F.W.
Ladies Auxiliary. She had a special “light” which shone to all those around her. She had a large family who looked up to and respected her. She was also an amazing grandma. She loved her husband, Bill, deeply and graduated into heaven on their 47th wedding anniversary.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kahoka with Pastor Rob Quillin officiating. Special music was recordings “Amazing Grace”, “Sissy’s Song” and “Mom”.

Pallbearers were Chad Young, Mike Young, Carl Hayden, Coyte Todd, Kevin Kottenstette, Corey Fox and Justin Reed.

Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after noon on Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. The V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary held a tribute just prior to visitation.

Memorials were suggested to the First Baptist Church in Kahoka.

Marvin Duane Brotherton, age 68, of West Point, IA, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, IA.

Marvin was born July 21, 1946 at Kahoka, MO, a son of Lloyd Curtis and Ella Marie Applegate Brotherton. He graduated from Kahoka High School in 1965.

He and Carolyn Sue Ward were married in 1966 and from this union three children were born: Michael Shawn, Scott Duane and Jennifer Sue. They divorced in 1987. On June 20, 1998 he was married to Glenna Jo Kruse Reusch at the Timber Lodge in Shannondale County, MO.

Survivors include his wife, Glenna, of the home; two sons,, Mike S. (Kathy) Brotherton of Coatsburg, IL and Scott D. (Lori) Brotherton of Rocky Point, NC; one daughter, Jennifer S. (Tony) Baker of Clinton, IL; a step-daughter, Delores May Reusch of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Ruth) Brotherton of Kahoka, MO; a sister, Karen Brotherton and her fiancé, Ron Valeu of Quincy, IL; brother-in-law, Rodney Hoskins of Fort Madison, IA; sister-in-law, Christine Brotherton of Argyle, IA; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Elmer, Alvin, Melvin, Hilbert, Luther, Leland “Gene” and Edmond; six sisters: Mildred Nichols, Maurine Hoskins, Gertrude Asher, Marilyn Frey, Margaret Lawson, and Mable Warren; sisters-in-law, Helen Brotherton, Vera Brotherton, and Irene Brotherton; brothers-in-law, Utah Warren, Floyd Nichols, George Bergman and Stanley Olson.

Marvin retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant following 41 years of employment.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going to flea markets and yard sales. He loved spending time at his summer home outside of Salem, MO, camping and working outside. He had a giving nature and was always attempting to give things to others to help them out.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dwight Snead officiating. Special music was recordings “In the Garden” and “Go Rest High”.

Pallbearers were Mike Brotherton, Scott Brotherton, Kevin Hoeing, Keith Hoeing, Lloyd Brotherton and Ron Valeu.

Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials were suggested to the family.

Patricia Carlson  Patricia Frances Carlson, age 86, of Novelty, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, in Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born September 2, 1928, at Williamsfield, IL, Patricia was the daughter of William and Oletha Squires Spencer.

Patricia Frances Spencer united in marriage with William Begner in 1945, in Illinois, and to this union three children were born.  On April 25, 1980, Pat united in marriage with Walter (Swede) Carlson in Edina, Missouri, and gained a step-daughter.

She liked working in her flower beds, mowing her lawn, doing jigsaw puzzles and reading.  Her embroidery and crochet handiwork is displayed in the homes of many of her family and friends.  She was very involved in her community, serving on the Novelty Town Board, serving as an officer of the Senior Center and attending, as well as working for the Locust Hill Community Church.  Pat was also currently serving on the Knox County Health Department Advisory Board.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Burns and husband Doug of Beverly, West Virginia, one son, David Begner and wife Debbie of Galesburg, Illinois, a step-daughter, Vicki Hill and husband John of Lake Villa, Illinois, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one sister, Judith Rhoades of Novelty, Missouri, three brothers; Jim Spencer and wife, Darlene of Peoria, Illinois, Bill Spencer and wife Janet of Williamsfield, Illinois, and Stanley Spencer and wife, Patty of Newark, Missouri, and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, LuAnne Begner and her husband, Swede Carlson.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M. Saturday, April 25, 2015, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  Reverend Reese Blaine and Reverend Bill Gaines will officiate the services.  Burial will be in the Locust Hill Cemetery.

Casket
bearers will be John David Parsons, Eugene Brenizer, Weldon Beach, Donald Hall, Tom Bailey, Joe Moyer and Ronald Rhoades.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 till time of services at 11:30 on Saturday, April 25, 2015, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Alma Lawson Binkley  Alma Waunita (Lawson) Binkley, age 86, of Mission Hills, California, died April 4, 2015.

Born on June 25, 1928, in Baring, Missouri, Alma was the daughter of Frank and Eva Lawson.  Alma Waunita Lawson united in marriage with Joseph Eugene Binkley in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  To this union two daughters were born, Donna and Debra.

Surviving are daughters, Donna Binkley and Debra Rose; three grandchildren, Collin and Tyler Rose and Travis Binkley Browning; and three great grandchildren, Victoria, Peyton and Brenden Rose.

Father William Paul “Bill” Kottenstette Father Bill Kottenstette, 73, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday (April 22, 2015) at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

The son of Frank and Maurine (Kerrigan) Kottenstette, he was born November 27, 1941 in Denver, Colorado.

Father Bill is survived by his best friend of twenty-five years, Chris Koch of Kirksville, Missouri; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Fred and Marge Kottenstette of Columbus, Ohio, Jim Kottenstette of Denver, Colorado, John and Betsy Kottenstette of Denver, Colorado and Michael and Kathleen Kottenstette of Laramie, Wyoming; three sisters, Teresa Jensen, Sr. Mary Kay Kottenstette and Sr. Maurine Kottenstette all of Denver, Colorado; one sister-in-law, Bettye Kottenstette of Aurora, Colorado; one brother-in-law, Martin Borrok of Novinger, Missouri, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tom Kottenstette and one sister, Patricia Borrok.

Father Bill attended Regis High School, Denver, Colorado, receiving his diploma in 1959. In August of 1959, he entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in St. Louis. He then attended St. Louis University, receiving his Ph.L. in Philosophy and a Masters in Spanish in 1966. From 1966 to 1969, he was a teacher, counselor and coach of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City. In 1969, he entered St. Louis University School of Divinity and received a Masters of Divinity in 1973. From 1969 -1973, he taught at Xavier High School and St. Louis University High School, both in St. Louis.

Father Bill was ordained a priest for the Society of Jesus on May 19, 1973 in Denver and his assignments were, Dean of Students, Regis High School in Denver, Colorado, 1973-1976, Teacher/Counselor, DeSmet High School in St. Louis, Missouri, 1976-1978, and Dean of Students, Cardinal Ritter College Prep High School in St. Louis, 1978-1982. Before professing solemn vows, he was released from the Society of Jesus in February 1983 in good standing. He then worked as public relations officer, intake manager and counselor of Stout Street Foundation in Denver, Colorado, 1983-1984. From 1984-1989, he held various other jobs. Since November 1989, Father Bill lived in the Kirksville community, ministering to recovering alcoholics and addicts as well as those in search of recovery.

After contacting Bishop Michael F. McAuliffe for consideration of Service in the Diocese of Jefferson City, his assignments were, Associate Pastor, Mary Immaculate Church in Kirksville and the Mission of St. Rose of Lima in Novinger, April 7, 1991-July 1, 2004, Canonical Pastor, St. John Church in Memphis, Missouri, June 18, 1993-August 1, 2008, Chaplain, Catholic Newman Center at Northeast Missouri State University, now (Truman State University) in Kirksville, January 1, 1996-present, Incardinated in the Diocese of Jefferson City, May 22, 1998, and Pastor, St. Joseph Church in Edina and St. Aloysius Church in Baring, July 1, 2004-August 1, 2008. Father Kottenstette celebrated his 25th Anniversary of Holy Priesthood on April 26, 1998 at the Baldwin Auditorium, Truman State University in Kirksville.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2015, with a Liturgical Vigil Service led by Father Chris Cordes, at 3:30 p.m., at the Catholic Newman Center in Kirksville.

Emery O. Geisendorfer, Sr., 80 died unexpectedly on ApEmery Geisendorferril 27, 2015 on his farm located west of Monticello, Missouri.

Emery was born December 30, 1934, one mile west of his current home, the son of E.O. “Otho” and Ruth L. (Downs) Geisendorfer. He attended Monticello Elementary School and finished his education of LEMO High School in Lewistown, Missouri.

He married Arminta Ashmead on December 13, 1953 in the bride’s home in Lewistown, Missouri.

He devoted his life to farming with his family, where he enjoyed raising cattle, growing crops and experiencing the day to day activities of rural living.

Emery was a member of the Monticello Methodist Church. He served various capacities with multiple community organizations throughout his life. He took pride in his service on the Lewis County C-1 School Board and was a member of the Lewis County Republican Central Committee for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Monticello A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge #58 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of Moolah Shrine Temple of St. Louis, Mo. He served as a Monticello 4-H Club leader and enjoyed helping his children and grandchildren with their 4-H projects for many years.

Emery leaves behind his wife Arminta; four children, Emery O. “Buster” (Jan) Geisendorfer, Jr. of Monticello, Mo., James E. (Jeana) Geisendorfer of Monticello, Mo., Laura R. Logsdon (and companion Joe Eisenbeiss) of Monticello, Mo. and Jeff L. (Stacey) Geisendorfer of Troy, Mo.; grandchildren, Nicole (Jamie) Goodwin, Bridget (Cody) Browning, Keli Geisendorfer, Nicole Edington, Jeremy (Miki) Geisendorfer, Ethan (Lydia) Geisendorfer, Avery Logsdon, Parker and Cooper Geisendorfer; great-grandchildren, Evan and Emery Goodwin, Cole and Alexis Browning, Natalie Wilson and Ty Edington, Jolie and Lucas Geisendorfer and Elizabeth “Ellie” Geisendorfer; one brother, Leonard (Francie) Geisendorfer of Ewing, Mo., two sisters, Neva Sue (Harry) Emrick of Quincy, Il., Mary (Larry) McConnell of Lewistown, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Dova Geisendorfer of Lewistown, Mo., Erma Geisendorfer of LaBelle, Mo. and Nancy Geisendorfer of Monticello, Mo. and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edward, Kenny and John Geisendorfer, and an infant brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown, Missouri with Rev. Elsie McNeil and Rev. Tom Dombrowski officiating. Burial will be in the Lewistown Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4 until 8 PM with Masonic services at 8 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Lewis County C-1 FFA Chapter, The Monticello Masonic Lodge #58, or the Monticello United Methodist Church

Francis Dawson  Francis Lee Cleatice Dawson, age 94, of Ewing, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, in Country Aire retirement Estates in Lewistown, Missouri.

Born on March 26, 1921, at Steffenville, Missouri, Francis was the son of Everett Columbus and Lulu Stone Dawson.  Francis united in marriage with Pauline Darley on November 25, 1942, in Hannibal, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Pauline Dawson, of Ewing, Missouri, two sons, Larry Lee Dawson and wife, Virgie Lee, of Steffenville, Missouri, Dennis James Dawson and wife, Kathy Lee of Ewing, Missouri, one granddaughter, Leann Jensen and husband Andrew of Grimes, Iowa, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Roy, Ernest and Elton Dawson; and his sisters, Maudie Maye Voltmer, Roberta Bevill and Lucy Clay Hemmin.

Francis received his education at Steffenville, Missouri. He and Pauline resided most of their life in the Steffenville area where they were engaged in farming and raising cattle.  Francis was a member of the Tri County Buffalo Rangers, the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and a member of the Roping Club for ten years. He enjoyed working, running cattle and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services were held April 27, 2015, in the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri with Reverend Charles Sharpe and Reverend Ken Jaworski as officiates for services.  Burial was in the LaBelle Cemetery. Music was provided by Erin Wright singing, “There Is A Fountain”. Casket bearers were Richard Porter, Bob Gottreu, Brownie Rothweiler, Sam Knocke, Terry Buswell and Tim Morgan. Honorary bearers were John Lesser, Bill Stauffer, Sam Schwieter, Roger Schwieter and Tom Luttrull.

Mazie Pauline Vogel

Mazie Pauline Vogel, age 73, of 612 Lewis St., Canton, MO, died on
Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11:25 a.m. in her home. She was born on
August 20, 1941 in Nebo, IL, a daughter of Albert Alonzo Aloisus & Mazie
Marion (Zettler) Harris. She married Donald R. “Ducky” Vogel on
February 11, 1960 in Quincy. He survives.
Mazie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Canton, MO.
She held various jobs outside of the home during her life, but her main
job was always wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake for
family and friends and was famous for her pies.
Mazie was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Eagles Auxiliary 1800, Relay
for Life of Lewis County and Canton Civic Club.
In addition to her husband, Donald, she is survived by three daughters,
Diana Butler and her husband JP of Columbia, MO, Susan Marra, and Leigh
Ann Burnett and her husband Greg, all of Canton, MO; seven grandchildren,
Brandon (Tina) Marra of St. Louis, MO, Ryan (Michelle) Hamilton of Kansas
City, MO, Travis Hamilton of Columbia, MO, Ashley Hamilton and her fiancé
Ricky Jaswal of St. Charles, MO, Bobby (Sage) Burnett of Monroe City, MO,
and Bryce & Braydon Burnett, both of Canton, MO; the first
great-grandchild, Baby Boy Marra, due to be born in August 2015; two
brothers, Arthur (Kay) Harris of Iberia, MO and Donald (Ruby) Harris of
Tuscumbia, MO; and a sister Lorraine (Wayne) Johnson of Pueblo, CO;
along with her special pets Sugar & Nestle. Several nieces, nephews and
great-nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters,
Cindy & Tammy Vogel; brothers, Albert, Jr., Richard, Henry, George &
Oscar; and sisters Audrey Webster, Virginia Huested & Aileen Autery.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in
the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 ¬ 7:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lewis County Relay for Life

Charles RowlisonCharles Lee Rowlison, age 72, of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, in Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

He was born May 5, 1942, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Richard Francis and Irene Bowen Rowlison.  He was united in marriage to Helen Fox on January 5, 1963, in Edina, Missouri.

Charles is survived by his wife Helen Rowlison of Hurdland, Missouri; his daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Chris Gonnerman of La Belle, Missouri; his granddaughter, Taylor Gonnerman; his brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Mary Ann Fox of Kirksville, Missouri; his brother-in-law, Eugene Yoakum of Brashear, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Donna Rowlison of Edina, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parent, his sister Reta Yoakum, his brother John Rowlison, and his nephew Kevin Yoakum.

Charles attended Hurdland School graduating in 1961.   He lived in the Hurdland area his entire life, working as a carpenter until his retirement in 2009.   Charles was a member of the Hurdland Baptist Church, a former member of the Hurdland Fire Department and a former member of the Hurdland Celebration Committee.  He enjoyed woodworking, welding, fishing and spending time with his family especially his granddaughter Taylor.

Funeral Services were held Monday, May 4, 2015, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  Reverend Robert Shobe officiated the services.  Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hurdland, Missouri.

Musical selections will be “Old Rugged Cross” and “Wind Beneath My Wings”.

Doris Litchfield Doris Lorene Litchfield, age 83, of LaBelle, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, in Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

She was born on March 16, 1932, in Newark, Missouri, the daughter of Edward Arthur and Gleeta Hall Rogers.

Doris Lorene Rogers united in marriage with James Thomas Litchfield on January 9, 1949, in Kirksville, Missouri.

They resided on family farms in Knox and Lewis Counties during their married life of 64 years.  They have two daughters, Judy Litchfield of Quincy, Illinois, and Donna Sparks of Kirksville, Missouri.  They have two grandsons, Andrew Sparks and wife Stephanie of Augusta, Georgia, and Aaron Sparks of Kansas City, Missouri.

Doris was known for providing many delicious family dinners.  Many enjoyed gift boxes of Christmas candy from the Litchfield’s.  She embroidered quilts for gifts for family members.  She was a member of the Amacitia Study Club and hosted a yearly Christmas luncheon, including many kinds of homemade candy.  She and her husband had a great love of sports.  She was a fan while her daughters were involved in basketball and cheerleading at LaBelle High School and at Highland High School.    She followed her grandsons in football, basketball and baseball while on traveling teams and school teams in Kirksville and continued attending basketball games for her nephews and nieces at Marion County High School.

She and her husband were constant companions in farming and especially enjoyed working with cattle.

Besides her daughters, she is survived by a sister, Lottie Glover and husband Alan of Newark, Missouri, nieces and nephews, Linda Sharpe of St. Charles, Missouri, Rick Sharpe and wife Becky of Shelbyville, Missouri, Mike Sharpe and wife Abbie of Quincy, Illinois, Matt Glover and wife Dana of Lewistown, Missouri, Ginnie Scoggin and husband Jamison of Newark, Missouri and Ben Glover of Newark, Missouri.  She also loved the many great-nieces and great nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband on July 26, 2013, her parents Edward Arthur Rogers and Gleeta Hall Rogers Williams, her step-father Earl Williams, and her sister-in-law Mary Sharpe.

Jim TurpinJames (Jim) Wesley Turpin, age 61, of Kansas City, Missouri, formerly of LaBelle, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015, in Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown after a battle with COPD.

He was born November 4, 1953, in Quincy, IL, the son of Harold D. and Aurolyn B. Eskew Turpin.

Surviving are three sisters, Laura Hall and her late husband, Danny of LaBelle, MO, Roma March and husband, Mark of Knox City, MO, and Barb Squire and husband, John of Des Moines, IA, one brother, Roger Turpin and wife, Joyce of LaBelle, MO, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

Jim was preceded in death by his father and two, brothers Ronald and Bob Turpin.

Jim attended grade school in LaBelle and graduated from Highland High School.  In his earlier years he was engaged in farming in the LaBelle area.  He also attended Auctioneer School and was employed as an Auctioneer in Northeast Missouri for several years.  For the past 20 years he has lived in the Kansas City area where he was employed as an Engineer for Kodak.  He had a passion for Antiques and quilts and was presently restoring all of his grandmother’s quilts.  He enjoyed spending time with his dogs Minnie and Pearl and his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015, in the LaBelle Cemetery under the direction of the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  There will be no visitation.

Officiating the services will be Pastor Ted Middleton and Pastor Debbie Schmidt.

Casket bearers will be Shane Hamlin, Ronnie Hamlin, Clint Turpin, Cody Turpin, Cole Turpin, Jason Martin and Brian Smith.

Rife, Olivia , age 23, of Quincy, died on Saturday, May 2, 2015 in
Springfield, Illinois.

Olivia was born August 26, 1991 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of
Gregory Rife and Kelly Hunziker Rife.

Olivia was active in the Girl Scouts growing up and danced for seven
years. She was a 2010 graduate of Quincy High School, where she was a
Cheerleader.

Olivia was a fun loving person. She could always put a smile on your
face. She loved her family and friends and especially loved her
daughter, Ava Jo.

Survivors include her father, Gregory Rife of Palmyra, MO; her mother,
Kelly Rife of Quincy; her daughter, Ava Jo Rife of Quincy; two brothers,
Dustin (Kolby) Rife of Palmyra, MO, and Christopher Rife of Quincy; her
maternal grandmother, Marydot Hunziker of Kahoka, MO, and paternal
grandmother, Carole Rose of Palmyra, MO; her great-grandmother, Wilma
Rife of Texas; a nephew, Blake Rife of Palmyra, MO; a niece, Kinsley
Rife of Palmyra, MO; several aunts and uncles, Craig (Danita) Rife of
Columbia, MO, Beverly (Russell) Miller of New Bloomfield, MO, Barbara
(Stephen) Toops of Gaithersburg, MD, Marcia (Bruce) Folk of Mt. Vernon,
TX, and Dennis (Joann) Hunziker of Kahoka, MO; and numerous cousins and
friends.

Olivia was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Bobby Gene Rife and
Melvin Hunziker, and an uncle, Robert Leon Rife.

MADALINE A. MUHRER

Madaline Acklie Muhrer, age 99, of Columbia, MO, died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Candlelight Lodge Assisted Living Facility in Columbia.

Madaline was born August 28, 1915 near Alexandria, MO, a daughter of Johnnie and Eda Katharina Neumann Acklie.

She married Merle E. Muhrer on February 4, 1939 at her parents’ home. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1999.

Survivors include four sons: Verle (Dorothy) Muhrer, of Kahoka, MO, Darryl Muhrer of Columbia, MO, Merlin (Jill) Muhrer of Lansdowne, PA, and Henry (Roberta) Muher of Chicago, IL; ten grandchildren: John Henry Muhrer of St. Louis, MO, James Martin (Sally) Muhrer of Lake Forest, IL, Trueman (Mandy) Muhrer of Buffalo, NY, Sarah Muhrer of Lansdowne, PA, Eli Muhrer of Boston, MA, Lydia Muhrer of New York, NY, James Gordon Muhrer of Huntley, IL, Rachel (Tom) Tendnes of Hoffman Estates, IL, Zachary (Jenna) Muhrer of Stockton, KS and Clementine (Matt) Hoeing of St. Louis, MO; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Rovene Lipper of Luray, MO; sister-in-law, Laverne Hohli of San Antonio, TX; also nieces, nephews, and cousins, many residing in Clark County, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Merle E. Muhrer; two brothers, Lester and Virginia Acklie and Kenneth and Mary Acklie; and brother-in-law, Ansel Lipper.

Madaline was a 1933 graduate of Kahoka High School and attended Kirksville State Teacher’s College. She taught in several one room schools in Clark County until her marriage when she and Merle moved to Columbia, then Kirksville, as he furthered his education. Finally returning to Columbia to receive Merle’s doctorate degree where they made their home the rest of their lives.

Madaline was confirmed and raised in the fellowship of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka and returned there many times while visiting her family in Clark County. She then moved her membership to Columbia United Church of Christ and was active in its’ ministry, participating in the Women’s Guild, volunteering in the office, serving as part-time organist to name a few.

She was a member of the Stran Extension Club, the University of Missouri Faculty and Ag Wives organizations, a former 4H leader, and member and past president of the Missouri State China Painter’s Association.

She was a wonderful mother who supported her children and grandchildren as they continued and furthered their education and cherished each and every one of them. She was an accomplished painter, specializing in china and many of her pieces are in homes in Clark County.
In addition, she had a miniature outhouse collection and an extensive Santa Claus collection.

She was a Proverbs 31 lady who extended a hand and smile to all she met.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Rev. Dixie Laube and Deacon Joe Mitchell providing words of comfort. HL Plenge will serve as organist and Mrs. Vicki Mitchell vocalist. Special music is “I Was There to Hear your Borning Cry”.

Pallbearers are John Henry Muhrer, Zachary Muhrer, Trueman Muhrer, Sarah Muhrer, Clementine Hoeing and Eli Muhrer.

Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery with bagpipist Jane RabiniMadaline Muhrer

Harold “Bub” Campbell, age 67, of rural Kahoka, MO, died Monday, May 4, 2015 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Bub was born August 14, 1947 in Keokuk, IA, one of three sons of Earl Raymond “Mike” and Grace Brown Campbell.

He was married to Joyce M. Ferguson on April 1, 1967 at Wayland, MO. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2012.

Survivors include his son, Todd (Kelly) Campbell of rural Kahoka, MO; three grandchildren: Michael (Melissa) Campbell of Wayland, MO and Zane and Tressa Campbell of rural Kahoka; two great-grandchildren, Garrison and Kynzler Campbell; his mother and step-father, Grace and Wayne Hodges of Kahoka, MO; two brothers, Jerry (Mary) Campbell of Alexandria, MO and John (Debbie) Campbell of Wayland, MO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Harold (Carol) Ferguson of Wayland, MO, Donnie (Teresa) Ferguson of Kahoka, MO, Gail (Kathy) Ferguson of Alexandria, MO, Larry (Barb) Ferguson of Keokuk, IA, Joann Moon of Canton, MO, Janet (Ronnie) Ryan of Canton, MO and Linda Smeltser of Wayland, MO; aunt and uncle, Wes and Sharry Brown of Keokuk, IA; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his father; his wife, Joyce; mother-in-law, Eleanor Ferguson; sister-in-law, Linda Ferguson; brother-in-law Lloyd Moon, and his sister Linda’s companion of many years and his good friend, Bud Shipley; as well as his infant great-grandchild, Kyler Campbell.

Bub was a 1965 graduate of Kahoka High School. He was a life-long farmer in Clark County, as well as a businessman, well-known for his auctioneering and as owner of Campbell Trucking and Excavating. Although he had been ill for some time, he continued to work hard and enjoyed taking the crops out this past fall. He was a former member of the Clark County Fair Board.

In earlier years Bub enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and he and his teams played many games during the season. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed playing golf with Todd and friends and the road trips to Biloxi and other places. Having come from humble beginnings himself, Bub extended his hand and gave to many people who were experiencing problems out of the goodness of his heart. He was a devoted family man. His family was the light of his life and he was fortunate to have them close by.

Private memorial services were held Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Deatrick officiating. There was no visitation. Inurnment followed in the Frazee Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested to the Frazee Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

 Mary J Primm Mary Jane Primm, 93, of Baring, Missouri formerly of Colony, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the LaBelle Manor Care Center in LaBelle, Missouri.

  Born on May 22, 1921, in Warren County near Roseville, Illinois, Mary Jane was the daughter of Earl H. and Lola Davis Huston Kirkpatrick.

  Mary attended school in Roseville, Illinois and Western Illinois State College in Macomb, Illinois and graduated with a Teaching Certificate in 1941. She taught for one year in the rural schools before her marriage.

  On April 3, 1942, in Roseville, Illinois, Mary Jane married Lester E. Primm and she took on the vocation of farm wife that she dearly enjoyed.

  They made their home near Blandinsville, Illinois and in 1951 they moved to a farm near Colony, Missouri. Lester and Mary moved to Baring, Missouri after retiring and attended the Baring Community Church.

  Mary was a farm wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and enjoyed crocheting, counted cross stitch, traveling but most of all she loved visiting with family.

  She is survived by her children, Lola and her husband Donald Raines of Canton, Missouri, Jean and her husband Dennis Schwedler of Newport News, Virginia, Norman Primm of Colony, Missouri, Chester Primm and his wife Carolyn Primm of Baring, Missouri, and Dale and his wife Susan Primm of Carthage, Missouri; a sister, Marjorie Laster of Deerfield Beach, Florida; two brothers, Charles and his wife Norma Kirkpatrick of Roseville, Illinois, and James Kirkpatrick of Morgan Hill, California; a sister-in-law, Frances Kirkpatrick of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

  Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lola Kirkpatrick; husband Lester Primm; two brothers, Robert and Raymond Kirkpatrick; and a sister, Martha Case.

  Funeral services were held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

  Burial will be in the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Missouri.

  Pastor Kenneth Rush officiated. Music was provided by Mike and Pam Blaine. Casket Bearers were Dustin Primm, Travis Primm, Brian Primm, Tim Athon, Gary Leerhoff, and Doug Jones along with Honorary Bearers of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Glen Sanderson  Joseph Glen Sanderson, age 77, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015, in Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born at Rolla, Missouri, February 21, 1938, Glen was the son of Lloyd Vernon and Frieda Marie Hanley Sanderson.

Glen received his education in Knox County, Missouri.  He was engaged in farming northeast of Edina.  Glen enjoyed bicycling and visiting with friends.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one sister Kathryn Sanderson of Edina, Missouri, and several cousins.  Glen was preceded in death by his parents and one brother John Ivan Sanderson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 13, 2015, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  Reverend Paul Milliken officiated.  Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery.  Musical selections were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In The Garden”.

Donald Lee Kemper, 74, of Kahoka, Mo died Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA.
He was born July 24, 1940 in Keokuk the son of Mable L. Briggs Kemper. On January 6, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joyce Mitchell at Melrose Methodist Church in Argyle, IA. She survives.
Other survivors include for children, Dana Kemper of Kahoka, MO, Robb Kemper and his wife Lisa of St. Patrick, MO, Wendy Boggs and her husband Lewie of Kahoka, MO and Kelly Kemper and his partner Gary Rawls Sr. of Norfolk, VA, four grandchildren, Tasha Kerr and her husband Anthony Kerr, Jeremy Kemper, Dillon Kemper and Austin Kemper, two great-grandchildren, Aliyah Kemper and Natalie Kerr, four step-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ron Kemper and his wife Bev of Coos-Bay, OR and Gerald Kemper and his wife Helen of Montrose, IA and one sister, Lela Tillotson of Burlington, IA.
He was preceded in death by his mother, an infant son, Daniel Leroy Kemper, one brother, Jerry Kemper and several aunts and uncles.
After Donald graduated from high school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Cuban Crisis.
Donald had been employed by Roquette America in Keokuk for twenty-five years until his retirement in 2004.
He attended Bible Baptist Church in Kahoka, Mo. He was a member of NRA.
Donald was a hunter and especially enjoyed hunting elk in Colorado. He also enjoyed reading western novels and mushroom hunting. He loved traveling and visiting people and places and making wonderful memories.
A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastors Glen Yoder and Mike Shea officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA.
Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA.

Mary EdmonstonMary Louise Edmonston, age 87, of Ewing, Missouri, passed away on May 12, 2015 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Born on August 29, 1927 near LaGrange, Missouri, Mary was the daughter of Paul and Mae Zuspann Coleman.

A graduate from Ewing High School in May 1944, it was on September 10, 1944 that Mary Louise Coleman became the bride of L. B. Edmonston.  The couple celebrated over 51 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1996.

Mary and L.B. operated a service station and café for many years in Ewing, Missouri. Mary and her sister, Oneta Primm did machine quilting for 7 years.  She enjoyed bowling, for which she received many awards and also enjoyed fishing, crocheting, hand quilting, and reading.  She cleaned the Heetco offices at Lewistown and Quincy. Mary was always available to help others whenever there was a need.  She spent many years gathering family genealogy.

Mary accepted the Lord as her Savior in 1952, and became a member of the Assembly of God Church. She had the privilege of serving in many positions in the church, in later years she sang with the Nelsonville Assembly of God Choir for three years.

She served as an Oats bus volunteer and attended many of the events that were offered by them. She also attended REC and Mark Twain Telephone meetings and enjoyed visiting with different people.

Survivors include: sons, Leslie B. and (Rose) of Lewistown, Missouri, Curtis R. and (Charlotte) of Indianapolis, Indiana; one granddaughter, Tina Waterman and husband John; two grandsons, Kedron and Aaron Edmonston; one great grandson Ryan Waterman; sisters, Leta Gaus of LaGrange, Missouri, and Oneta Primm of Palmyra, Missouri; also several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, L.B., Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter in law Linda (Cordray) Edmonston, two brothers, Harvey and Elmer Coleman; sisters, Verna Stiffey, Ethel Robertson, Maxine Garner, Mildred Stewart and Florence Bailey; and sisters-in-law, Stella (Carl) Edmonston Gottreu and Rosa Lee (William) Edmonston Steffen.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Bro. Maneul Shoults officiating. Music for the service was by the Nelsonville Assembly of God Choir. Interment was in Steffenville Cemetery at Steffenville, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to Nelsonville Assembly of God Library Fund and may be left with Ball-Davis Funeral home Ewing.

Pallbearers were Kedron Edmonston, Aaron Edmonston, Ryan Waterman, Paul Stewart, Jeff Primm and Larry Henderson.

Donna FarrisDonna Jean Farris, 40, of Edina, Missouri, passed away, Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Donna was born on November 7, 1974, in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of John Eugene and Noreen Connie Dagenhart Farris.

She attended the Edina Elementary and graduated from the Knox County High School in the Class of 1994. She continued her education at the Moberly Area Community College in Moberly, Missouri.

Before Donna’s health failed she was employed for a time at Casey’s General Store and she also worked in daycare.

She was good at accounting and paperwork, helping her parents and others. She enjoyed reading, watching television, painting and taking care of kids.

Donna is survived by her parents, Gene and Noreen Farris of Edina, Missouri; her dog, Lola Mae; two brothers, Kevin and his wife, Nancy Farris of Lexington, South Carolina and Douglas Farris of Edina, Missouri; a sister, Karen and her husband, Mike Cook of Gloucester, Virginia; a dear friends-sisters, Teri Mason and  Staci Melton of Edina, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Megan Nicole Farris, Myia Paige Farris, Stephen Michael Cook Schrage, and McKinsey Ann Noreen Cook; step-nieces and nephews, Audrey and her husband, Madison McCarty and Vincent Bernier; a great nephew, Conner Goodwin; numerous aunts, uncles, great aunts and great uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

At her request, Donna was cremated.  A memorial service was held at Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Gladys Lucille Tyhurst, of Grandview, Missouri was born September 21, 1921 in Kirksville, Missouri the daughter of Ernest and Rosa (Huber) Hutcheson of Knox County. She departed this life on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at the Crown Care Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 22 days.

On April 24, 1937, Gladys was united in marriage to Lewis Duane Tyhurst in Kirksville.

Gladys was a homemaker in every way. She enjoyed sewing, working in her garden, and was a good cook. Later she was employed in the office at the House of Lloyds, Kansas City, Missouri. Gladys loved to travel, camp out west and visit with family.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Tyhurst on June 1, 1979; a son, Richard Laverne Tyhurst; a son-in-law, James Langlinais; a granddaughter, Staci Rae Wagnon Duncan; 5 siblings, Russell Edgar, Ernest Curtis Jr., Floyd Dale, Lloyd Gale and Mary Jane.

Gladys is survived by 5 children, Martha Langlinais, Rosemary Wagnon and husband Tom, Curtis Tyhurst and wife Leta, June Tyhurst and companion John Hancock and David Tyhurst; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Locust Hill Cemetery, Novelty, Missouri.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
