Helen Janene Purdy

Helen Purdy Helen Janene Purdy, age 82, of Rutledge, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, at Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

The daughter of Roy Audrey and Hilma Eugenia (Windsor) Parrish, she was born June 30, 1932, on the family farm north of Colony, Knox County, Missouri.  On September 26, 1967, she married Floyd Eugene Purdy who preceded her in death on June 22, 2000.

Her parents and grandparents, Robert A. and Louisa (Snelling) Parrish and Francis Edwin and Anna Mae (Coffman) Windsor, also preceded her in death along with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

As a young child, Helen united with the Harmony Grove Baptist Church where she maintained her membership until death.  She was baptized in the North Fabius River near the church.  Helen attended rural Brick School in Knox County, graduating from the eighth grade.  She and her mother worked as cooks at Colony School until its closing in 1967.

Helen and her husband, Floyd, were engaged in farming on their Missouri Century Farm east of Colony for many years.  She was a homemaker, known for her pies, homemade noodles and divinity fudge.  She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.  She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed feeding her hummingbirds.  Perhaps most of all, she loved her pets.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 2 P.M. at the Memphis Funeral Home with Deacon Michael Cantril officiating.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow the service in the Gorin Cemetery at Gorin, Missouri.  Casket bearers will be Brian Bay, John Dodge, Matt Dodge, Aaron Golden, Donnie Golden, John Golden and Mike Hyde.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Helen Purdy may be made to the Gorin and/or Harmony Grove Cemetery Fund and may be left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Carol Jean Purdin age 75, of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at her home north of Hurdland, Missouri.

Born December 11, 1939, in Knox County, Missouri, Carol Jean was the daughter of Claude Franklin and Selma Faye Lancaster Barnes.

She was united in marriage with Stanley Lee Purdin on November 1, 1958, in Edina, Missouri.

Surviving are her husband, Stanley Lee Purdin of Hurdland, Missouri; two daughters. Opal McCafferty and Ron of Quincy, Illinois, and Annette Whiles and Bill, of Hurdland, Missouri; three sisters, Donna Patterson of Kirksville, Missouri, Sandra Hoskins of Hurdland, Missouri, Kay Cassady of Kirksville, Missouri; four brothers, Derrel Barnes of Kirksville, Missouri, Harold Barnes and Linda of Wright City, Missouri, Larry Barnes of Edina, Missouri, and Ronnie Barnes and Janna of Kirksville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Ashley Marshall of Quincy, Illinois, Katie and Clayton Whiles of Hurdland, Missouri; several nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Gerald James, Claude Jr., and Richard Barnes.

Carol graduated from Brashear High School.  She was employed for several years as a cook in Hurdland School and Knox County High School.  She was also employed at the Edina Post Office.  Carol enjoyed quilting, flowers and spending time with her family.

Carol’s wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held.  Burial will be held at a later date.

Edward Paul “Scotty” Ausmus

Edward 'Scotty' AusmusEdward Paul “Scotty” Ausmus, 84, of Bevier, Missouri, passed away on June 24, 2015, at the Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon, MO.

Scotty was born on January 25, 1931, in Edina, Missouri, the son of Dave and Jennet (Hunter) Ausmus.  He was united in marriage to Lois Dagenhart on February 23, 1952, in Kirksville, Missouri.  Scotty served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  He worked for many years as a mechanic for the Missouri Highway Department and was a member of the Macon Elks Club and V.F.W.  Scotty enjoyed dancing, fishing, playing cards at Clarence and Shelbina, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Scotty is survived by two sons, David and Robin Ausmus of Macon, and Daniel Ausmus and his wife, Tonia of Macon;  five grandchildren, Alison Evans and her husband, Joey of Macon, Kendra Ausmus and her fiance’, Nick Blomberg of Macon, Dylan Ausmus of Bevier, Kyle Ausmus and his wife, Cortney of Macon, and Tyler Britt and his wife, Kelly of Greenwood, Missouri; six great-grandchildren, Jerek Evans, Jace Evans, Zoe Eitel, Kallen Ausmus, Piper Ausmus, and Ryan Britt; two brothers, Junior Ausmus and his wife, Dorothy, and Bill Ausmus and his wife, Peggy; one sister, Fern Martin; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, on November 16, 2008; three brothers, John, Leon, and Merle; and two sisters, Hazel and Ethel.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, June 29, 2015, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Bro. Jim Bolin officiating.  Burial, with full military honors, will be in the Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.  Visitation will be from 4-6 pm, Sunday, at the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials to the Macon Elks Lodge.

Byron Ewalt Byron Fred Ewalt, 91, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015, at his residence in Edina, Missouri.

Born on May 25, 1924, in rural Knox County, Missouri, Byron was the son of Fred and Nellie Rae House Ewalt.

He attended Island Rural School northeast of Knox City, Missouri and graduated from the Knox City High School in the Class of 1942. He served his country, during World War II, in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Byron farmed until 1964 before starting a new vocation as a carpenter that he enjoyed until his retirement in March of 2002.

On June 5, 1947, in La mesa, Texas, he married Eva Lena House and to this union two children were born. Eva preceded him in death in June 1958.

On May 7, 1960, in Knox City, Missouri, Byron married Euvanah Vannaken and she preceded him in death on April 28, 2010.

A lifelong resident of Knox County, Byron was a member of the Methodist Church but attended the Edina Christian Church, was a sixty year member of the Knox City American Legion, and a member of the Colony Masonic Lodge where he was awarded a fifty year pin.

Byron is survived by a son, Lynn and his wife, Beverly Ewalt of St. Peters, Missouri; daughter, Deanna and her husband, Larry Hubbard of Cantril, Iowa; three brothers, Garland and his wife, Betty Ewalt of Mesa, Arizona, Roy Lee and his wife, Mary Lois Ewalt of Monmouth, Illinois, and Albert Earl Ewalt of Kahoka, Missouri; three sisters, Roberta Agee of Edina, Missouri, Jewel See of Colony, Missouri, and Alice Ann and her husband, Roger Gipson of Edina, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Barbara Ewalt of Edina, Missouri; a granddaughter, Sarah Ann Ewalt of St. Peters, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rae Ewalt, two wives, Eva Ewalt and Euvanah Ewalt; a daughter, Marsha Ann Ewalt; two brothers, John Arthur Ewalt and Charles William Ewalt; a sister, Carol Pemberton; and three brothers-in-law, William “Bill” See, Ralph Agee, and Oscar Pemberton.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Masonic Service will be conducted Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. by the Colony Masonic Lodge.

Full Military Graveside Honors will be at the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri by Knox City American Legion Post.

Pastor Mike Wilson and Dewayne Wellborn will officiate and music will be provided by Carol Hays and Brent Karhoff. Casket Bearers will be Mark Klocke, Mike Hays, Robert Hubble, Todd Goodwin, Cedric Boone and Jaston Boone.

Elaine Agnes “Bobbie” Bearden

Elaine BeardenElaine Agnes “Bobbie” Bearden, age 79, of LaBelle, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015, in the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. She was born August 28, 1935, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Harry Beale and Helen Gertrude Miscovich Hillen.

She was united in marriage to Alvin Eugene Bearden on March 10, 1963, in San Diego, California.

Surviving are her husband, Alvin Eugene Bearden of LaBelle, Missouri; two daughters, Teresa Annette Fox of Kahoka, Missouri, and Denise Marie Cohen of Columbia, Missouri; two sisters Betty Burke of Temtucla, California, and Nellie Cochlin of Chula Vista, California; four grandchildren, Stacey Fletcher and Daniel, William Cohen, Heather Magruder and Josh, Ronnie D. Fox III, one great grandchild, Ryan Murry, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald Bearden, Glenda Bearden and Etta Bearden, all of California, Sandy Robinson and David of Oregon, James Bearden and Karen of Oklahoma, several nieces and nephews. Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Bessie and William Henry Bearden, one granddaughter Katerina Bearden, two brothers Cecil and Billy Bearden and a sister-in-law Sissy Bearden.  Bobbie received her education in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She was a military wife and traveled all over with her husband.

Since 1987, she and her husband have resided in the LaBelle community. She was a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed ceramics, cake decorating, reading and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 28, 2015, in the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri with Reverend Shawn McAfee officiating the services.    Musical selections will be I Did It My Way, I Can Only Imagine, Old Rugged Cross and Wind Beneath My Wings.  Casket bearers were William Cohen, Ronnie Fox III, Josh Magruder, Robbie Walters, Greg Walker and Adam Cramsey.  Burial was in the LaBelle Cemetery.

Donald Hess Dinger, age 83 of Kahoka, MO, died peacefully on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka surrounded by his loving family.
Donald was born August 9, 1931 in Kahoka, MO, a son of Herbert and Bertha Hess Dinger.
He was united in marriage to Limjke (Linda) Hogeboom on June 14, 1958 at Wyandotte, MI.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Linda, a faithful source of comfort and support for 57 years. He is also survived by his daughters, Johanna (Soloman) Viramontes of Lake Wales, FL, Janet (Michael) Lawlor of Winter Haven, FL; a son, David (Kathy) Dinger of Keokuk, IA; grandsons, Sean, Joseph, David, Keegan, Kasey and Kory; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Al Pasiuk of Southgate, MI, Sip and Jo Hogeboom of Grou, Netherlands, Jenny and Klaas Veenstra of Seattle, WA, Marvin Hogeboom of Sneek, Netherlands, Hinkae Kuiper of Den Haag, Netherlands, and Albert Hogeboom of Sneek, Netherlands; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded death by his parents and siblings: Mary Pasiuk, Amy Dinger, and Betty (Gerald) Denham.
Don was a 1948 graduate of Kahoka High School. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Missouri and then served in the U.S. Navy. He received a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He spent his career in administration.
Don and Linda returned to Missouri when his health began to fail to be near his extended family in Clark County.
Don was a member and confirmed in the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Pastor Dixie Laube officiating. Special music was “Morning Has Broken”, “As Time Goes By”, “I Can Only Imagine” and “Go Now In Peace”.
Burial with military rites was in the St. Paul Cemetery.
Visitation was held at St. Paul United Church of Christ on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m. with family receiving friends until time of services.
Memorials in lieu of flowers were suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ.
The family was served by Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

The United States Nave and the members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars hereby acknowledge that Comrade Donald Hess Dinger served our country for three years, four months and five days in the United States Navy.
He served as a Naval Aviator (pilot) attaining the rack of Lieutenant Junior Grade (Lt. Jg)0-2.
He was awarded and authorized to wear the following decorations: China Service Medal (extended), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal.
Comrade Dinger enlisted 26 February 1953, received and honorable discharge 30 June 1956, and returned to Clark County, Missouri.  
The ship has been darkened, and the bell mournfully tolls for our shipmate who joined the staff of the Supreme Commander on 21 June 2015. During his final assignment, we wish him fair winds and following seas.

Charles Dean Carlson, 86, East Moline, formerly of Hampton, Illinois, died June 26, 2015 at home after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Charles was born on November 30, 1928 in Cantril, Iowa, the only son of Hilmer and Florence Black Carlson. Charles spent his early years around Memphis, Missouri, where he worked on his father’s farm. He married Betty Hulen in Kahoka, Missouri on August 19, 1953.
Charles was an Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Hazel Welsh; one nephew, David Lynn Rood; and four brothers in law, Tony Welsh, Dale Rood, Ronald Hulen, and Eldon Hulen.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a sister, JoAnn Rood, Memphis, MO; and four nieces, Deb Whitehurse, Columbia, MO; Jan Summers, Kahoka, MO; Deanna Rood, Kirksville, MO; and Robin Sappington, Queen City, MO.

Anne Helene Byland Downing, 83, formerly of Edina, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Lake George Assisted Living Home in Columbia, Missouri.

Anne was born on October 6, 1931 in rural Monroe City, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas E. and Ruby Umstaddt Byland.

She attended Public Schools in Hannibal, Edina and Monroe City, Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri, with a BS Degree in History and a Masters Degree in Art History.

Anne united in marriage with Donald Anderson Downing, on September 30, 1965, and they made their home in Edina, Missouri.  She continued to make Edina her home until she moved to Columbia, Missouri in 2009.

Anne was a former Public School Teacher and Art Curator.  She was a member of the Missouri Audubon Society, Descendants of the Mayflower Society, as well as other numerous organizations.

Anne is survived by a sister, Elsie Byland of Columbia, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Downing on January 7, 2008; her parents; and her brothers, James T. Byland, and Benjamin A. Byland.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2015, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery in Newark, Missouri.


Rosa Lee Vanskike

Rosa Lee Vanskike, age 85, of Bethel, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015, in Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, Missouri.

Born January 3, 1930, in Knox County, Missouri, Rosa Lee was the daughter of Orvil Thomas and Ruby Lucille Jackson Smith.

Surviving are three children, Russel Vanskike and Millie, of Shelbyville, Missouri, Linda Thrasher and Jerry, of Billings, Missouri, and Robert Vanskike and Petra, of North Richland, Texas, one sister, Mary Hull of Michigan, ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Vanskike was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Dorothy Muller.

Rosa graduated from Bethel High School.  She was employed as a janitor at Bethel School until it closed and remained involved with the Bethel community center.  Rosa retired from Cerro Copper in Shelbina, MO in 1995.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers and spending time with her family.

Her request was to be cremated and no services will be held.  Burial will be held at a later date.

Ada May WarfordAda May Warford, age 100, of Iowa Falls, Iowa, died on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Scenic Manor Nursing Home in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls with burial in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery.

Ada May Warford was born on May 16, 1915 in Edina, Missouri, the daughter of Martin and Margaret Sheridan. She graduated from the St. Joseph’s High School in Edina, Missouri in 1933. Ada May was united in marriage to Glennon Warford on December 31, 1937 in Edina, Missouri. She was a house wife and was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls.

Ada May is survived by her five children, Dixie (Jerry) Buisman of Marion, Laurance (Marsha) Warford of Columbus, IN, Terrill (Kay) Warford of Baton Rouge, LA, Patricia (Richard) Wood of Escondido, CA, and Michael (Janet) Warford of Lakeside, CA.; six grandchildren, Lori (Buisman) Beach (Dave), Kevin Buisman (Heather), Julie (Warford) Freeman (Scott), Jolyn (Warford) Bibb (Kirk), Amy (Wood) Brasil (Tony), Gina (Wood) Heck (Matt); 14 great-grandchildren, Kara (Beach) Wagoner (Jason), Cody Beach (Callie), Alyssa Brinkman and Mc Kenna Buisman, Mikayla, Tyler (Alisha), and Tate Freeman, Mason and Madalyn Bibb, Jena, Grace, and Adam Brasil, Ethan and Kingston Heck; and 10 great-great grandchildren, Chase, Chelsey, and Landyn Wagoner, Ayla, Brielya, and Tayah Beach, Trey, Tyson, and Easton Freeman, and Livia Brinkman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers; and sisters.

A memorial fund has been established and the family request memorials be directed to Larry Warford, 5104 Sanibel Drive, Columbus, IN 47203. The family will forward the memorials to Hansen Family Hospital and St. Mark Catholic Church in Iowa Falls.

JERRY LEE BISHOP

Jerry Bishop  Jerry Lee Bishop, age 49, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Jerry an Arizona native, was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on September 28, 1965 to Dan and Judy Bishop.

Jerry attended St. Agnes Grade School, and at various times, St. Mary’s High School and Camelback High School.  He graduated from Wyaconda High School in Wyaconda, Missouri.  After high school, Jerry joined the Army where he remained for seven years as Sergeant while being stationed in Lawton, Oklahoma, and Wiesbaden, Germany.  Jerry was a landscaper for many years, but in all reality Jerry was a Jack-of-all-trades and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.  There are several activities that Jerry really loved with the top four being fishing, biking, barbecuing and sleeping.  Jerry loved a good nap.  Jerry was taken from this earth way too soon, but his light will shine on in all of those that loved him.  Jerry will truly be missed and will never be forgotten. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend to all who knew and loved him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Judy Bishop and brother, Chris Bishop.

Jerry leaves behind his son, Cody Daniel Bishop (Stephanie Guaderrama); granddaughter, Emma Mae Bishop; best friend and ex-wife, Shirley Consiglio Bishop; father, Daniel Glenn Bishop and step-mother, Judi Bishop; sister, Laurie Ann Bishop; and countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 10, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85018.

Scott WolterScott Wolter, age 32, of Leavenworth, Kansas, formerly of Knox City, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly July 5, 2015.  Scott was born October 16, 1982, in Quincy, Illinois, to Joyce Barnes and Larry Wolter.  He was united in marriage to Courtney Hartmann, March 28, 2013.  She survives in Leavenworth, Kansas, where they had recently made their home.

Scott leaves behind a large blended family including mother Joyce Klocke and Joe Howes of LaBelle, MO; father Larry Wolter and Kathy of Leavenworth, Kansas; siblings, Nicole Wolter of Leavenworth, Kansas, Shanna Cochran of Minot, North Dakota, Mandi Prescott, Jesse Wolter, and Josh Wolter, all of Leavenworth, Kansas, Hunter Klocke, Ashley Howes, and  Austin Howes, all of LaBelle, Missouri; several aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong friend, Jon Davis.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Dorothy Rossiter, Raymond Barnes and Raymond Wolter.

Scott was a 2001 graduate from Knox County R-1 High School and was employed as a correctional officer at Lansing Correctional facility in Kansas and was a member of the elite SORT team.

An avid outdoorsman, Scott enjoyed hunting, fishing and relaxing with his beloved dog, Ruby. He was involved in KF and SF4L knife groups, collecting knives and going to knife collector shows.  Scott also expressed himself through his many tattoos.  If one looked close enough they would see a tribute to his beloved Grandma Dorothy.  Because of his varied interests, Scott had a wide array of friends and made friends easily.  Scott had a great gift for telling stories and those who knew him knew of his quick wit.  Scott’s infectious humor and overall good nature will be missed as he has been taken from all who knew and loved him far too soon.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 12 noon till time of services at 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Earl Manche  Earl Manche, 77, of Novelty, Missouri, passed away on July 6, 2015, at his home.

Born on November 7, 1937, in Pekin, Illinois, Earl was the son of Francis “Dick” and Elva (Greene) Manche.

Earl united in marriage with Georgia Phillips, on November 19, 1960, in Hazelwood, Missouri.  Earl was employed by McDonnell-Douglas for 36 years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Macon and served as a Deacon at the Dardenne Baptist Church.  A volunteer firefighter, Earl was a former President of the Firefighter District in Wentzville, Missouri.  He enjoyed being a pilot and flying, farming, playing his guitar, and especially enjoyed visiting and being with his friends and family.

Earl is survived by his wife, Georgia; three children, Vicki (Manche) Thomas and husband, Jeff, of Anabel, Missouri, Earl Duane Manche, Jr. and Tina, of Wright City, Missouri, and David Manche and wife, Cherie, of St. Peters, Missouri; four grandchildren, Samantha, Jared, Jacob and Abby; one brother, John Manche and wife, Joan, of O’Fallon, Missouri; two sisters, Eva Kincy and husband, Leon, of Sikeston, Missouri, and Frances Anderson and husband, Ercie, of Hillsboro, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Rev. Lindell Sconce officiating.  Burial will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Macon.  Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Thursday evening, at the funeral home in Macon. John V. Land, age 77, of Kahoka, formerly of Revere, MO, passed away early Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka where he had been a resident the past week.

John was born August 28, 1937 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Jesse Edward and Sarah Beghtol Land.

He married Harriet Johnston and to this union Cyndi and Crystal were born. He later married Adelina Segovia and was blessed with Anthony and Nadine “Dede” through this union.

Survivors include his children: Cyndi (Mrs. Roger) Bradford of Apple Valley, CA, Crystal (Jerry) Hodges of Riverside, CA, Anthony (Joanie) Segovia of Fort Madison, and Dede Segovia of Kahoka; nine grandchildren: Jillian (Manuel) Segovia-Bermudez of Pomona, CA, Rachel Hodges of Riverside, CA, Chad (Stephanie) Clawson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Brent and Shane Clawson, both of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Victor and Vincent Segovia of Fort Madison, and Kira and Gavin Stark of Kahoka; six great grandchildren: Jacquie of Pomona , CA, Ava and Isabella of Riverside, CA, Jaxon and Lyla and Cash, all of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; three sisters: Bonnie (Mrs. John) Stills of Pleasant Hills, IA, Janette Roberts of Fort Madison, and Carole (Mrs. Jon) Olson of Urbandale, IA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wendell Shaner of Strong-hurst, IL and Connie Land of Revere; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jesse Land; and, four sisters, Louise Phillips, Marian Shaner, Barbara Peterson and Dorothy Harwood.

John attended school in Keokuk. He served in the United States Marine Corps from June 23, 1955 until April 7, 1959. He was a proud supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.

Following his return to the midwest, John was employed by Henkel and later by Dial Corporation from which he retired. He worked hard and all of the time. He loved to farm and plant garden. He was an expert bowler with at least one 300 game, winning many trophies. He had the distinction of beating Roy Rogers at a tournament in LasVegas. He looked forward to spending time with his children and grandchildren

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home with words of comfort by Mrs. Athena Duncan. Special music was “Find Your Wings”, “You Needed Me”, “Country Roads”, “I’ll Always Love You”, and “In the Garden.”

Serving as pallbearers were Anthony Segovia, Josh Verdon, Roberto Candelaria III, Henry Maestro, Mark Land, and Mike Land.

Burial with military honors conducted by Ayer-Boatman Post #4342, V.F.W., Herman Blum Post # 192, and Missouri Military Honors Personnel followed in the Revere Cemetery.

Memorials were suggested to the family (checks payable to Dede Segovia).

Edythe Irene Mitchell, 7,1 of Findlay, OH, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center.
Edythe was born on July 20, 1943 in Dedham, Massachusetts to the late Dominic and Elizabeth (DeSantis) Long.
She married George A. Mitchell, Jr. on March 9, 1962 in Roxboro, Massachusetts and he survives along with a daughter Edythe (Curtis) Davidson of Findlay, six grandchildren; Brandon (Michelle) Davidson, Kristen (Randall) Rayle, Jesse Davidson all of Findlay, Katherine Davidson of Fairfield, Rebecca Davidson of Fostoria, and Amanda (Brandon) Roth of Delwein, IA and ten great grandchildren. Edythe is also survived by three sisters; Janet (Fred) Kenyon of N. Billerica, Massachusetts, Grace Williams of Norwood, Massachusetts and Elizabeth McLeish of Dedham, Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her son Donald Mitchell. Edythe enjoyed cooking, crafts and gardening. She especially enjoyed her family. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
A private family memorial service will be conducted at a later date in Missouri.

Vivian Mahoney, 89, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Montebello Healthcare Center in Hamilton, IL.
She was born July 22, 1925 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Martin and Irene Lambert Washburn. On December 21, 1948 she was united in marriage to Elmer Eugene Mahoney Sr. in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2008.
Vivian had been employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk for twenty-five years.
She was a lifelong member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk.
Vivian loved to go camping with her husband. She had great luck on her trips to the casino and was excited to win several small jackpots. Her family meant everything to her and the time she spent with them was priceless. The memories that were made will live in their hearts forever.
She is survived by one daughter, Sherry Buschling-Walker and her husband David of Carthage, IL, one son, John Mahoney and his wife Laura of Keokuk, one daughter-in-law, Wanda Mahoney of Keokuk, one granddaughter, Candy Lovell and her husband Paul of Keokuk, one grandson, Jeff Buschling and his wife Angela of Canton, MO, five great-grandchildren, Megan and Christian Lovell and Renae, Rachel and Grace Buschling, five sisters, Sharon Cockrell of Keokuk, Sheila Kay and her husband John of Keokuk, Ilene Robertson of Keokuk, Shirley Dodge and her husband and Kenneth of Hamilton, IL and Kathleen Boltz and her husband Robert of Keokuk and 1 brother, Patrick Washburn and his wife Sandra of Des Moines, IA and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Elmer Mahoney, Jr. six brothers, Martin “Keith”, Anthony, Glen, Carl, John and one in infancy, and three sisters, Ruth, Lucille and Dolores.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk with Father Lathrop officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m., Sunday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 4-6 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Matthew Wm MootsMatthew William Owen Moots, 88, of Lebanon, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, in Osage Beach.

Born January 7, 1927, in Highland Township, Oregon County, Missouri, Matthew William was the son of William Leonard and Carrie Mae Clark Moots, who preceded him in death.  He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Ray and Donald Dean Moots.

Matthew Moots was a motivational speaker.

Survivors include three sisters, Jewell (Judy) Moots and Evelyn (Jeanie) Moots, both of Dodge City, Kansas, and Sue Boyd Guthrie and her husband, Joe, of Lake Worth, Florida; three brothers, Ira (Bill) Moots, of Kirksville, Glen Moots and wife, Donna, of Hurdland, Missouri, and Leon Moots, of Edina, Missouri; as well as, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Matthew William Owen Moots will be held at a later date. As per his request, his body was cremated.

 

RUSSELL A. SCHUTTE

Russell SchutteRussell A. Schutte, age 86, formerly of Quincy, died Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 9:20 am in the Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Palmyra, Missouri.

Born on April 13, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois, Russell was the son of Arthur C .and Ora Anna May Genteman Schutte.  He married Bonnie Jean Grawe on October 7, 1948 in Quincy, Illinois.  She preceded him in death on May 26, 2001.   On January 1, 2002, Russell united in marriage with Elizabeth McKenzie McAnulty in Quincy, Illinois.  She survives.

Russell was a 1946 graduate of Quincy High School.  He was employed by Gardner Denver Company and then the Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana. He retired as Engineering Manager of the Diesel Engine Department. He returned to Quincy in 2000 and was a member of Luther Memorial Church. Russell was lead singer and played the trumpet in the Heidelberg German Band which was his life’s passion.  He also loved to fish and was a woodworker.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include his daughter, Terri Williamson of Indianapolis, Indiana, and his son, Alan Schutte of Springfield, Illinois; stepson, Steve (Mary Marie) McAnulty of Quincy, Illinois, and stepdaughter, Linda (Jeff) Bowker of Springfield, Illinois; six grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Patridge, Colin Schutte and Austin Schutte, all of Springfield, Illinois, Keith (Dana) Williamson of Terra Haute, Indiana, Adam (Sheri) Williamson and Jeremy Williamson, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; four great grandchildren, Carly, Casey, Reagan and Liam Patridge, all of Springfield, Illinois, and a brother, Eugene (Lucy) Schutte of Quincy, Illinois.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sharon Kaye Schutte, and a son Edward in infancy.

Services were July 8, 2015 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with Rev. CJ Adkins  Carolyn "C. J." Jane Adkins, age 54, formerly of Edina, Missouri, passed away in her home on July 4, 2015, in Kirksville Mo.

Born January 26, 1961, in Anchorage, Alaska, Carolyn was the daughter of Orbie Harold Ballenger Sr. and Jane Edith Beamesterfer.
Surviving are her children, Jackie Brumbaugh, of Canton, Missouri, Terrieann Brumbaugh, of Warsaw, Illinois, and Cassie Adkins of Kirksville, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Ryan Easley of Edina, Missouri, Madison Easley of Baring, Missouri, Astasha, Shawna, Selena, Micala, Terran, Casey and Crixis; siblings, Orbie Ballenger, Jr. of Lexington, Missouri, Edith McMullin of Marthasville, Missouri, and Eva McMullin of St Peters, Missouri.  She also leaves behind a special friend, Dave Blevens.

CJ loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Dale Earnhardt Jr.  She was all about family and always wanted the best for everyone.

Preceding her in death were both of her parents, Orbie Harold Ballenger Sr, Jane Edith Beamesterfer; a daughter, Mary Jane Cartwright, and her Aunt Elaine Sause.

Cremation rites were by Heartland Cremation and Burial Society in Columbia Missouri.  Memorial services were held Friday, July 10, 2015, in Marshall, Missouri at 1:30 at Campbell Lewis Funeral Home.

Sandra Remley  Memorial services for Sandra "Sandi" Remley, 69, of Arbela, Missouri, were Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Dr. Jeff Davis officiating.  Full Military Rites were provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post # 4958 of Memphis, and the National Guard outside of the funeral home.  A private inurnment will be at a later date.
Sandi Remley passed away Monday morning, June 22, 2015, at her home in Arbela under hospice care.  As per her wishes cremation was accorded.
Surviving relatives include her daughter: Sheila Remley of Arbela, Missouri; her son: Lucas (Stacy) Remley of Memphis, Missouri; four grandchildren: Logan and Cara Remley of Kirksville, Missouri, along with Ava and Paisley of Memphis, Missouri; her mother: Emma Smith of Memphis, Missouri; a sister: Billie (Jimmy) Nytes of Carpio, North Dakota along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be remembered and missed by all that knew her.
