Mr. Richard Theron Cook Jr., age 55, of Durham, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 at 9:05 p.m. at his residence in Durham, Missouri.

He was born September 10, 1961 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, a son of Richard Theron and Judy Ann Klocke Cook Sr.

Rick enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and mushroom hunting and being a Pa Pa. Rick was a jokster and liked to kid around. He was a 1979 graduate of Highland High School. He worked for Quincy Soybean from 1979 until 2002 and then became a self-employed contractor.

Survivors include his companion of 35 years Debbie of Durham, one daughter, Amanda (Travis) Fleer of Lewistown, Missouri; one son Richard Austin (Lindsay) Cook of La Grange, Missouri; parents, Richard and Judy Cook Sr. of Durham, Missouri; sister, Susie (Tris) Wood of Ewing; brother Larry Cook of Ewing, Missouri; four grandchildren, Sebastian, Theron, Cayden and Ashton; several nieces and nephews; also extended family members, Joe and Darlene Davis, Dawn Johnson, and Michael Johnson, all of Durham. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Ed and Maxine Klocke, Carold and Mildred Cook, sister in law, Cheri Cook and extended family member, Marty Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ewing with Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Music for the service includes Amazing Grace, Wing Beneath My Wings, and Midnight Rider.

Burial will be in Ewing Lutheran Cemetery in Ewing with Austin Cook, Larry Cook, Travis Fleer, Sonny Klocke, Andy Johnson, and Tony Johnson serving as pallbearers, and Tris Wood, Bob Lillard, Eddie Klocke, Ed Staggs, Roger Cook, Vernon O’Brien as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held   Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Ewing.

The family suggests memorials be made to Debbie Johnson for his grandchildren’s education fund or to the Ewing Lutheran Cemetery.


KATHERINE BAUER

Katherine Lee Bauer of West Peoria, Illinois, died at 10:30 p.m. on May 28, 2017 at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home of Peoria, Illinois.

Born at Newark, Missouri, on May 18, 1923, Katherine was the only child of Homer and Myrtle (Gunnels) McSorley.

Katherine married Francis M. Bauer on June 22, 1946 in Streator, Illinois and he preceded her in death on October 24, 1975.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Jennifer Middleton.

Surviving are two children; a daughter, Francis (Bernard) Middleton of Loxley, AL; a son, Chet (Laurie) Bauer of Peoria, IL; four grandchildren, Mary (Doug) Miller, Michelle (Ron) LaRoe, Blake (Angela) Bauer and Betsy Bauer; three great grandchildren, Ryan Miller, Isaac Bauer and Levi Bauer.

Katherine attended college at Kirksville Missouri State Teachers College and taught for one year at a grade school near Brashear, Missouri. She worked at Bergner’s in Peoria part time for 18 years. She was a member of the Newark Missouri Baptist Church.

A grave side service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Newark Cemetery in Newark, Missouri. Burial will follow.

DWIGHT PAPE

Dwight H. Pape, 69, of Knox City, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, near Durham, Missouri.

He was born on May 29, 1948, in Knox City, Missouri, the son of Dee Roy and Anna May Hoffman Pape.

Dwight attended the Knox City High School and graduated from the Knox County High School in the Class of 1967.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Knox City American Legion Post.

Dwight lived in the Knox City Community most of his life and first worked in maintenance with Quincy Soybean for almost 25 years before starting Pape Welding in Durham and later Lewistown, Missouri until 1989. He operated LeeHoff Auto Recycling and D&D Recycling in Brashear, Missouri until he retired. In retirement, he drove a truck and did what he wanted with his time.

He was a NASCAR Fan, enjoyed watching westerns, antiquing, spending time with his constant companion “Ringo” and visiting with friends and family.

On November 5, 1994, in Kirksville, Missouri, Dwight married Clarece Elaine McCarty.

He is survived by his wife, Dee Pape of Knox City, Missouri; two daughters, Melissa Rose Klocke of Kirksville, Missouri, and Sheila May and her husband, Kevin Benson of Maywood, Missouri; three step-children, Bill and Kim Troutt of Metamora, Illinois, Tammy and Gordon Dromey of Edina, Missouri, and Gary and Barbara Sykes of Hurdland, Missouri; four grandchildren, Alyssa Anna May Spillman, Konner Klocke, Kaitlin Benson and Kyle Benson; five step-grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey and Kerri Troutt, Hope Dromey and Shauni Sykes; a sister, Lily Ann Turner of Ashland, Missouri; a brother, Robert D. Pape of Colony, Missouri; along with numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and May Pape; two sisters, Julia May Pape and Mary Louise Pape in infancy; and a brother, Larry William Pape.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Knox City Cemetery near Knox City, Missouri.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Dwight Pape may be left to the Knox County Cancer Fund. A memorial may be left at or mailed to the Doss Funeral Home 208 N. 4th Street, Edina, Missouri 636537.

Jesse William Ketchum

Jesse William Ketchum, 33, of Downing, Missouri passed away Monday afternoon, May 29, 2017, in an accident north of Memphis while responding to a fire call. The son of Bill and Kelley (McClamroch) Ketchum, he was born March 1, 1984 in Memphis, Missouri.

He was raised in rural Scotland County on the family farm. He attended Scotland County R-1 Schools and graduated with the class of 2002. He then went on to further his education at Indian Hill Community College where he received an associates degree in Industrial Maintenance and HVAC in 2004. He later went on to open Ketchum Heating and Cooling to where he presently worked.
In 2007, Jesse married his high-school sweetheart Jenna Rae (Dial) Ketchum. To this union 4 children were born: Zada Rae, 8, Cora Kay, 6, Rhet William, 5, and Kruz Roy, 2. Jesse was a loving, supportive husband and very proud to be called "Daddy".

Jesse had a true passion for figuring out how things worked and ran. He enjoyed working and doing what was right for people. He enjoyed many friends, helping people, and always learning.

Jesse started farming during high school and bought his farm and the age of 17. He enjoyed working with cattle. These passions originated as a small child when he would drive his tractors in the sandbox.

As a child, Jesse was very active in 4-H, Boy Scouts, and FFA. Currently he was a member of the Memphis Fire/Scotland County Rural Fire Departments and the VFW Post #4958 of Memphis.
Jesse was a wonderful loving husband, father, son, brother, grandson and friend. He was a great family man who truley believed in keeping traditions. Jesse will always be missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Ketchum, grandparents Leland Ketchum, Denver and Jody McClamroch, Kenneth Eggleston, Madge and Bud Daggs, and father-in-law Bob Dial.

Survivors include his wife Jenna Ketchum of the home, four children; Zada Rae, Cora Kay, Rhet William, Kruz Roy, his mother Kelley Ketchum and Dan Short, one brother Jason and Stephanie Ketchum, grandparents: Grandma Kay Eggleston and Mary Ketchum, mother-in-law Marcia Dial. Several nieces and nephews including Claire Grace Ketchum. Many other family member and a whole host of friends and patrons. Aunts and uncles: Mark and Patty McClamroch, Wyatt McClamroch, Kristy Eggleston-Wood, Mark Eggleston, Clifford and Linda Ketchum, Jane and Jack Thompson, Arron and Kim Ketchum. Brothers and sisters-in-laws: Scott & Audra Anderson, Shannon and Rob Quillin.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Scotland County R-1 High School gym at 2:00 P.M. with Brother Larry Smith assisted by Pastor Rob Quillin officiating. At the conclusion of the service interment followed in the Downing cemetery where full honors were provided by the Missouri Fire Funeral Assistance Team and assisted by the local Scotland County and Memphis Fire Departments.

Pallbearers were Greg Probst, Eric Probst, Mike Hyde, Cody Gundy, Jeff MeBee, Caleb Poe, Gavin Poe and Robbie Miller. Honorary pallbearers were the entire and Memphis and Scotland County Fire Departments along with Gail Farley, Doug Orton, David Wiggins, Nick Kratzer, Roger Tinkle, Larry Stewart, Greg Shelley, Jerry Anderson, Ed Strauthman, Jason Ketchum and John Chancellor.

Memorials in his memory are suggested to the family for their discretion and can be left at or mailed to the Payne funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Harold “Butch” Mayer

Harold “Butch” Mayer, age 79, of rural Kahoka, MO died Saturday, June 10, 2017 at his home.

Butch was born October 27, 1937 in Kahoka, MO, a son of Joseph and Margaret Spiker Mayer.

Survivors include three sons, Eric Mayer, Kim Mayer and Steven Mayer all of rural Kahoka, MO; two grandchildren, Kurtis Russell of Keokuk, IA and Kristin Russell of West Point, IA; one great grandchild, Molina McKnight; a sister, Josie Cantrell of Antioch, CA; extended family, Rachel and Randy James of Keokuk, IA and Edwin DeRoy of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother John Mayer; and one grandson Wesley.

Butch was a gifted mechanic. He loved his kids, his dogs and vintage and classic cars. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Visitation will be held on the parking lot at Wilson Funeral Home on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. It is the family’s wish that friends bring their vintage and classic automobiles for a car show in his honor at that time.

Doris Louise Biggs Gilbo

Doris Louise Biggs Gilbo, 90, loving wife and mother passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2017 at her residence in Tempe, Arizona. Born on April 22, 1927 to Marion Monroe and Sarah Melissia Darnell Biggs in Kirksville, Missouri she began a teaching career at the age of 19 that spanned 46 years. Her first teaching job was at Salisbury School, a one room school house, in Missouri. After graduating she went on to receive her Masters degree in Education from Truman University. During her teaching career she taught elementary school and later in life her focus was on elementary music. She taught in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Hawaii, and Arizona. Many people may remember the beautiful wedding cakes she made for many residents around the tri-state area.

Mrs. Gilbo married the love of her life, Milford Vincent Gilbo, on April 13, 1952 in Kirksville, Missouri. During their marriage they resided in Alexandria, Missouri, the family farm near Wayland, Missouri, Wahiawa, Hawaii, Keokuk, Iowa, and Tempe, Arizona. Mr. Gilbo preceded her in death on March 29, 2004.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbo held a lifelong passion for travel and visited over 70 countries in North America, Central America, North Africa, Europe, and Asia. During her final days she enjoyed watching the planes coming and going from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix over lunch and dinner.

What started as protection from the Arizona sun Mrs. Gilbo acquired 90 hats and became known as "The Hat Lady" around campus at her residence in Friendship Village Tempe. She was never seen without one of her hats, makeup, jewelry, and proper dress even if she was only going out to breakfast. Her children note that it was difficult to have a conversation Mrs. Gilbo while they were dining because so many people stopped to talk to her and tell her how beautiful she looked.

An avid book reader Mrs. Gilbo read 4 to 5 books a week. During her 13 years at Friendship Village Tempe she served as library president for 4 years managing all aspects of the day to day operation.

The youngest of 6 children was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Sarah Biggs, brothers Henry, Harold, Lester, and Wilford Biggs and sister Bonnie Dimmitt. Doris is survived by a son J Vince Gilbo of Houston, Texas and a daughter Marian Jo Jones and husband Kirk Jones of Chandler, Arizona.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street, with Pastor Jeff Bixby officiating. Burial will follow at Frazee Cemetery in Wayland, Missouri. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center.

Ronald E. Ferguson

Ronald E. Ferguson, 84, of Springfield, Missouri, departed this life on June 10, 2017 to be with our Lord.

Born June 6, 1933 to parents Sylva C. (Kapfer) and Chester L. Ferguson in Meyer, Missouri.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving on the Navy Aircraft Carrier, the USS Boxer and the seaplane tender, the USS Curtiss. He served as a Morse code communications tech in Guam for a year and a half. He came home to marry the love of his life, Joyce D. (Martin) of Kahoka, Missouri on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956.

They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended Lincoln Chiropractic College. In 1961, after graduation, he moved his young family to Springfield, Missouri to start his Chiropractic practice. He was a Chiropractor in Springfield for 55 years and made many life long friends.

He and Joyce have been blessed with four children, Connie (Ferguson) Schneider, Springfield, MO; Jerry Ferguson (wife, LaDawn), Catoosa, OK; Michael Ferguson, Glenpool, OK and Tammy (Ferguson) Inman (husband, Mike), Springfield, MO. They have nine grandchildren – Alyssa Schneider, Blake Ferguson, Dana Brown, Elizabeth Guiver, Tabatha Mortensen, Raymond Ferguson, Dylan Ferguson, Bradley Johnson and Mackenzie Inman and twenty great-grandchildren. His family meant the world to him and he loved them with all of his heart.

His parents, his wife Joyce’s parents – Ray J. and Thelma Martin, his brother Jim Ferguson, his brother-in-law Kent Martin and his nephew Kevin Martin, preceded him in death.

His wife, Joyce Ferguson, his four children, grandchildren and great grandchildren survive him.

Ron and Joyce have been members of Parkview Christian church for many years. Ron had a deeply rooted Christian faith. His humor and orneriness, along with his self-less love and commitment to his family, friends and all whose lives he touched, will be missed and yet lovingly remembered.

Memorial services will be held at 12 pm, June 13, 2017 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home and burial will be at the Veterans Cemetery near Springfield lake. Visitation will be from 10 am – 12 pm, June 13, 2017 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

FRED HACKEMACK

Frederick George Hackemack, age 95, of LaBelle, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in LaBelle Manor Care, in LaBelle, Missouri.

Born on May 1, 1922, in Hancock County, Illinois, Fred was the son of George Frederick and Alice Meyers Hackemack.  He was united in marriage to Kathryn Marie Roberts on March 23, 1946, in Quincy, Illinois.

Surviving are his wife Marie Hackemack of LaBelle, Missouri; one son, Larry (Janet) Hackemack of LaBelle, Missouri; three grandchildren Kim (David) Porter, Randy (Brittany) Hackemack, and Amy (Bruce) Windoffer; one step-grandchild Dana Simmons; eight great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hackemack was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Carl and Virgil Hackemack; and one sister, Hazel Miller.

Mr. Hackemack received his education in Warsaw, Illinois.  He served his country in the United States navy during World War II from 1940 to 1946.  He was engaged in farming all his life in the LaBelle area, and was employed for sixteen years with Allis Chalmers (Cornelius Implement) in Edina, Missouri, as a mechanic.  Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, cards, trapping, Arrowhead hunting and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 17, 2016, in the LaBelle Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. till 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017, in the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri.  Reverend Mike Wilson will officiate for the services.

Casket bearers will be Gary Pearl, Dennis Briscoe, Jesse Porter, Sam Porter, Gabe Hackemack, and Ray Sharpe.

Honorary bearers will be Quinton Windoffer, David Wurtzberger, Jim Gross and Ryan Hackemack.

Larry Allen Weber, Sr.

Larry A. Weber, Sr. was born February 3, 1947 to Gilbert Weber and Leta Perkins Weber.  He passed away June 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.  Larry was 70 years old and died from glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor.  Larry spent his last months spending time with his family.

Larry was previously married to Charlene Nye and 2 children were born: Lucinda and Larry Weber, Jr. (Raelene). Later Larry married Sandra Warning and another 2 children were born: Lori and Robert Weber.  On May 12, 1978, Larry wed Mary Ellison Davis.  The family was completed with the addition of 3 more children:  Rickie (Ronda) Davis, Heather (Eric) Weber Webster, and Coreena Weber.  Larry was the proud grandpa to 10 grandchildren as well as 2 great-grandchildren.

Larry is survived by 7 siblings:  Mary “Dolly” Gray, Jerry “Bud” Weber, James “Ronnie” (Barbara) Weber, David “Michael” Weber, Stephen (Donna) Weber, Annabelle Weber, and Linda Jerez.  He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by 2 children:  Lucinda (’70) and Robert (July 8, 1997).  Larry is also preceded in death by his brother Judson Weber, 2 sisters-in-law, and 4 brothers-in-law. Carol Weber (wife of Bud Weber), Sharon Weber (wife of Mike Weber), Hobart Gray (husband of Dolly Gray), Marty Ellison (brother of Mary Ellison Weber), Johnny Shoup (brother-in-law of Mary Ellison Weber), and Mark Cameron (brother of Mary Ellison Weber).  Floyd Turtle, a special friend to Larry, also preceded him in death.

Larry proudly served his country through the United States Army.  He served a total of 6 years, including 18 months in country, during the Vietnam War. He continued his service to the veteran community by becoming a Life Member of VFW Post 4342 in Kahoka, MO.  He served as Quarter Master for 12 years and spent countless hours volunteering at the post.  Many of those hours were spent utilizing his construction skills and improving the facilities to ensure that the VFW was a safe and inviting establishment for veterans and their families.

Throughout his life, Larry worked construction as well as driving a semi.  One of the things he enjoyed most was running heavy equipment (cranes, bulldozers, track hoes, etc.). Often times he was lucky enough to work on the jobs with his sons by his side.  Robert worked next to him up until the day he died.  Most recently, he happily worked with Michael and Keith Phillips at Phillips Farms.  Although he helped with everything, he was most often found running and working on heavy equipment.

In his spare time, he loved to do wood working projects, often building furniture pieces for his children. Larry also loved the mountains and enjoyed traveling to Colorado to visit his cousins, Walt and Maggie Perkins.  He and Mary also made several trips to southern Missouri to visit family and friends.  The most important thing to Larry was his family

A Celebration of Life was held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the Kahoka C.A.R.E. Building.  Visitation was held from 10-12 with everyone invited to write down memories of Larry and the family sharing them at that time..   With Larry there was rarely a dull moment and the stories were enjoyed by all.  Lunch followed the readings.

Acknowledgement of Military Service

The members of the United States Army, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars hereby acknowledge that Comrade Larry Allen Weber served our country for five years, three months, and eighteen days in the United States Army.

He served as a UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” Helicopter Repairman with the United States Army Transportation Training School at Fort Eustis, Virginia.  He also served overseas in Europe and Vietnam during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist 5 (E5).

He was awarded and authorized to wear the following decorations:  Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Expert Marksmanship Badge – M-14 Rifle.

He enlisted 10 June 1965, received an honorable discharge from active duty 9 June 1969 and returned to Keokuk, Lee County Iowa.  He continued to serve in the United States Reserves.

The caissons have been muffled and the flag lowered for our comrade, who joined the staff of the Supreme Commander 11 June 2017.  At his final post we wish him fair skies and smooth pathways.

Evelyn Lucille Rice Harris

Evelyn Lucille Rice Harris, 89, of Jacksonville, North Carolina passed away Wednesday, June 14th 2017 at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

Evelyn was born the second child of John Lewis Rice and Vera Mae Vicksell on November 21st 1927 in Benton Township, Iowa. She grew up along-side four siblings; Katherine Rice, Kermit Rice, Junior Rice and Annabelle Hetz.

Evelyn wed Paul William Harris in Marietta, Illinois on the 23rd day of February in 1956. They raised seven children on their farm in Arbela, Missouri. Their children, Mary Louise Pacheco, Alvin, TX, William “Bill” Fred Harris, Edinburgh, TX, Evelyn Pauline Livingston, Springhill, LA, Hope Roseann Krehbiel, Raleigh, NC, Rae Jean Lewis, Keosauqua, IA, Paul “Tony” Anthony Harris, Austin, TX, Marcus Eugene Harris, Elvaston, IL, and Sandra Kay Miller, Richlands, NC blessed them with 16 grandchildren and many more great grandchildren.
Evelyn was not only a wife and mother, but was also a hardworking and committed business woman. She dedicated years of her life to achieve entrepreneurial success in Friendly’s toy sales and many additional years serving the town of Luray, Missouri as the Owner and Operator of Luray Café.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her eldest sister, Katherine, and youngest brother, Junior, her husband Paul, her son Tony, and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 10 am Wednesday, June 21st at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO. Burial will follow at the Point Pleasant Cemetery in Marietta, IL.

Heather Renae Lambert-Pullins

Heather Renae Lambert-Pullins, 23, of Wayland, MO, died Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home.

She was born on April 19, 1994 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Ron and Amy Case Lambert. She graduated from Central Lee High School with the Class of 2012. On October 1, 2016, Heather was united in marriage to Peter Pullins at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk.

Heather had been a Girl Scout and loved attending Girl Scout Camp. She was very interested in science and received the honor of Grand Champion at the State Science Fair. She was a cheerleader in high school and was also the water girl for the Wayland Fire Department. She enjoyed camping at her grandparent’s campground, going on road trips and watching TV and movies. She always looked forward to her birthdays and getting mushrooms from grandpa. Heather learned to play Skip-Bo at a very young age and was a very serious cut-throat player.

Heather bravely fought a life-long illness of Cystic Fibrosis and participated in numerous clinical trials. Her fight was tough, but she was tougher. She spent a lot of her time as a patient at the University of Iowa Hospital and had been member of the U of I Student Advisory Council for six years. As a member of the Council she was able to help design the new Children’s Hospital. Heather was a former wish recipient from Make-A-Wish Foundation. She continued to be involved in the Foundation, assisting in helping grant wishes to others. Heather had a passion to become a nurse and care for others. She recently realized her passion while caring for a special loved one.

She is survived by her loving and supportive husband, Peter Pullins of Wayland, MO, her parents, Ron and Amy Lambert of Montrose, IA, her brother, Andrew Lambert of Montrose, IA, her French sister, Orane Demuynck of Roclincourt, France, her mother-in-law, Teresa Pullins of Wayland, MO, brothers and sisters-in-law, Patrick Pullins of Columbia, MO, Nick and Adrienne Pullins of Kansas City, MO and Royce and Danni Pullins of Warsaw, IL, grandparents, Raymond and Norma Case of Farmington, IA, grandmother-in-law, Doris Carlson of Keokuk, great-grandmother, Helen Wall of Donnellson, IA, aunts and uncles, Yvonne Sue Seabold and Donnie & Darci (Daniel) Lambert all of Keokuk, Bryan and Tammy Case of Donnellson, IA, Elisha and Jeron Lindsay of Montrose, numerous great and great-great aunts and uncles, two nieces, Jessica and Riley Pullins, her cousins, Charles Case, Kurtis Case, Kailee Case, Ryan Lindsay, Blake Lindsay, Amanda Schmitt, Dawn Lambert, Teracea Lambert, Jessica Lambert, Abigail Lambert, Christopher Day, Brandon Daniel, Joshua Daniel, Ashley York and numerous extended cousins who have been very involved in her life. She is also survived by three life-long supportive and loving friends who always stood alongside her, Emilee Rairden, Carmen Ridgway and Kayla Hasper and also loyal friends, Meagan Walton and Rayna Tylinne.

She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Larry Pullins, grandparents, Gerald and Delores (South) Lambert, grandparents-in-law, James Carlson, and William and Margaret Pullins, great-grandparents, Norman Wall and William (Bill) and Irene Case, great-great-grandparents, Edward and Mamie (Norton Young) Wolf, one uncle, Tim Seabold and several great-aunts and uncles including Larry Wall, Rita Boyer, Larry South and Carla South who were very special to Heather.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk with Dawn Farris officiating. Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 5 – 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to University of Iowa Foundation/ Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, for her lifelong doctors to continue researching a cure.

LOLA FRANCES EDER

Lola Frances Eder, age 87, of Wayland, MO, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 13, 2017, while a patient at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Lola was born November 19, 1929 at her parent’s home just south of Kahoka, a daughter of Ralph L. and Opal Ingram McNally. Her mother died when she was a young girl and her dad married Myra Egley, who was a wonderful grandmother who her grandchildren adored.

Lola graduated from Wayland High School and married Mathew Clifford Eder on April 17, 1949. She cherished and devoted herself to him until his unexpected death on April 3, 2007.

Survivors include her children, Judy (Larry) Mohr, Kathy (Edwin) Wilson and Lynn (Steve) Summers, all of Kahoka, and Mathew (Teresa Kilgore) Eder of Anderson, SC; nine grandchildren: Brett (Renee) Sharify of Charlotte, NC, Ty Sharify, Jennifer (Adam) Frazee and Janet (J.D.) Fry, all of Kahoka, David (Julie Borkin) Wilson of St. Louis, MO, Stephanie (David) Little of Wilton, IA, Collin (Mishaylee Cline) Summers of Fairfield, IA, Jake Eder of Seneca, SC and Carson Eder of Summerville, SC; ten great grandchildren: Emily and Nathan Frazee, Isaiah Hardin, Tristan, Braden and Hadley Fry; Aengus Wilson, Ava Borkin, Sophia Eder and Wyatt Little; two sisters, Irene Fleming of Joplin, MO and Aileen Jinkens of Keokuk, IA; her best friend and neighbor dog, "Frank"; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents: Ralph McNally, Opal McNally and Myra Egley McNally; one brother, James H. McNally; and two sisters, Wilma McNally and Juanita Smith.

Lola worked at Wiggins Drug Store in Wayland while in high school and later at St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk. She stayed home to raise her children and later went to work in the kitchen at Running Fox Elementary. She and Bud owned and operated a firework stand and the Dairi Kone just south of Wayland for many years. She was a faithful member of the Wayland United Methodist Church, Methodist Women, and Wesleyan Fellowship. She quilted every Wednesday at her church to raise money for needs of the church. Some of her memberships included the Clark Co. Food Pantry, Friendly Neighbors extension club, Friends of the Senior Center, and the Royal Neighbors of America. In 2009, she was selected the Fraternalist of the Year of Royal Neighbors for the entire nation. Her club in Wayland will be remembered for making apple butter to sell to raise funds for the Clark Co. R-1 Band and for other needs in the county. She and Bud were blessed to be able to travel throughout the United States, to Europe and on several band trips including New York and Pasadena. She also traveled to Hawaii with the band in 2009 with Becky Buschling, her friend of many years.

Following Bud’s death, Lola began volunteering at the Running Fox Elementary school four days a week, helping with children, purchasing school supplies, teacher’s workroom supplies as well as clothing and whatever was needed for students. Through the past ten years, at Running Fox she unselfishly gave of her time and money and in reward was called "Grandma Eder" by her school family and the many kids that passed through the doors. She loved each one individually and shared their joys, their happiness and their tears.

Together, she and Bud taught the importance of sharing, giving back, and unselfish love.

Funeral Services were held Friday, June 16, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Wayland with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial followed in the Frazee Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Running Fox PTO or the Clark Co. Food Pantry.

Glen Wayne Howell

Glen Wayne Howell, 89, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka Mo. He was born on May 8, 1928 on a farm north of Luray MO, the sixth of nine siblings to Victor and Imogene Dietrich Howell. He married Neoma “Jean” Lough on October 29, 1950 in Memphis MO. She died June 29, 1991. He then married Virgie Rudd April 21, 2000. She died July 11, 2014. Glen was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean War. He worked 37 years at Dupont in Fort Madison until his retirement in 1985. He graduated from Wyaconda High School in 1946 and attended the First Baptist Church in Fort Madison for 65 years. He enjoyed taking his family camping in Colorado, playing pinochle, mushroom hunting, hosting hay rides and Howell family reunions at his farm near Wyaconda in Clark County. He enjoyed tending to his cows and spending time with his sweet Boston Terrier, Susie. He was a dedicated husband & father, hardworking and had tremendous integrity.

Survivors include: one son Eric (Claudia) Howell of Urbandale, IA; three daughters: Pamela Howell of Waukee, IA, Glenda Haynes of Fort Madison, IA and Jennifer (Doug) Chambers of Derby, KS; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister Edna Schuster of Kahoka, MO; one brother Don Howell of Wyaconda, MO; two step-daughters, Kathy Krogmeier and Dana Trone; two step-sons Dave Rudd and Tony Rudd; eleven step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides both his beloved wives: Jeanie and Virgie, Glen was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Emery, Loyd & Dean and three sisters: Evelyn, Almeta & Iva.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with the funeral service to immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Bill Willis officiating. Burial will be held at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard. Louise Rockhold

Louise Rockhold, 90, of Alexandria died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at her home in Alexandria.

She was born October 27, 1926 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Glen and Florence Belle Fields Bennett. After her mother passed away she was raised by Lloyd and Evelyn Stott. On December 23, 1945 she was united in marriage to William Rockhold in Kahoka. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1985.

She graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1945. She had been employed with Marshall Manufacturing, Marshalltown Hospital and the Swift Company.

Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wayland.
Louise was known in her family as the “crochet queen.” Throughout her life she delighted in ceramics and crocheting beautiful gifts for her family and friends. She would take her creations to Spoon River Drive and sell her beautiful projects.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Kirchner of Danville, Bonnie Bane (Jim) of Ft. McCoy, FL, and Peggy Rockhold (Rick Felger) of Keokuk, two sons, Ronnie Rockhold (Nancy) of Keokuk and Jerry Rockhold of Alexandria, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, two sisters, Nancy Adamson (Larry) of Kahoka and Rozella Younker (Gary) of Aurora, IL and two brothers, Ramo Stott (Judy) of Keokuk and Clarence Stott of Kahoka along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Charles Bennett, Richard Bennett, Robert Bennett and Danny Stott, and her sister, Florence Easton.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation will be held after 3 p.m. Tuesday with the family meeting with friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathryn “Katie” Rankin

Kathryn “Katie” Rankin, 83 of Kahoka, Missouri died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at her home.

She was born April 23, 1934 in Kahoka, Missouri the daughter of Charles and Eugenia Faye Rolland Moore. She was first married to Robert B. Logsdon. To this union her three children were born. After 20 years of marriage he preceded her in death. She then married Richard L. Logsdon. He preceded her in death after 20 years of marriage. On August 10, 2004 she was united in marriage to Douglas Rankin in DeLand, Florida. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2004.

Katie had been employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk for thirty-six years, until her retirement in 2007.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kahoka.

Katie enjoyed spending time working puzzle books and crocheting. She crocheted a great deal of love into beautiful gifts for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed helping all her friends and spending time with them. Above all, Katie adored her grandson and treasured every moment she spent with him.

She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Huston (Ron), her grandson, Jack Huston all of rural Williamstown, Missouri, step granddaughter, Cathy (Travis) DeVine of Warsaw, a great step granddaughter; Montana DeVine of Warsaw, and sister in law, Gladys Moore of Kahoka and her special friend Fred Webster and numerous other special friends.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Robert Logsdon and Franklin Logsdon, her parents, three brothers, Roland Moore, Carroll Moore and Charles Moore and two sisters, Wilmetta Baker and Nona Kerfoot.

At her request she was cremated and there will be no services.

Memorials may be made to the Clark County Nutrition Center or to the family and may be mailed to Vigen Memorial Home 278 W. Main Street, Kahoka, MO 63445.

Bryan Keith Brookhart, 41 of Kahoka, MO passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born August 14, 1975 in Iowa City, IA. He was the son of Mark Brookhart and Theodora Rose Swartz. Bryan was united in marriage to Malena Clay. She survives.

Other survivors include his mother, Teddy Swartz (Mike) of Dixon, IL, his father, Mark Brookhart of Ft. Madison, IA, one step-son, Daniel Damon, Jr. of Kahoka, MO, one step-daughter, Tiara Damon of Kahoka, MO, two brothers, Andrew Brookhart of Erie, IL and Christopher Brookhart of Ft. Madison, IA, one sister, Krystal Schipper of Hamilton, IL, one step-brother, Chris Swartz of Dixon, IL, one step-sister, Faith Swartz of Dixon, IL, one sister-in-law, Rebecca Clay of Kahoka, MO and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandmother.

Bryan graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1994.

He had been employed by Gregory Container and later at Keokuk Prototype Foundry, both in Kahoka, MO.

Bryan was a member of First Baptist Church in Keokuk.

Bryan loved spending time outdoors fishing. He also enjoyed watching television and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

A Celebration of Life service is planned by his family.

HAZEL WHITEAKER

Hazel Marjorie Whiteaker age 88 of Edina, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.

Born January 24, 1929, in the Bee Ridge Community, Hazel was the daughter of Lee Sumner and Lora Ferne (Kepple) Whiteaker.  At the age of nine, she moved with her parents to south of LaBelle, Missouri, and then to Knox City, Missouri.  Hazel graduated from Knox City High School in 1947.  She was employed at the Wells-Lamont Company as an instructor and Burnham Manufacturing in Edina for thirty-one years as a glove stitcher, and was a union member there.

Hazel moved to Edina in 1974. At an early age she joined the Knox City Christian Church, later moving her membership to the Edina Assembly of God Church.  She entered the Knox County Nursing Home in 2005.

Hazel loved to send various kinds of cards to her friends and relatives.  For 15 years she walked many miles collecting funds for flowers for deceased neighbors and their family.  She also collected for the American Cancer Society for many years.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ernest, Ervin, Glenn and Lee Sumner; three sisters, twins, Pauline and Paula, and Mary Kathryn Boyd.

Surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.  One nephew Gary preceded her in death that she raised in her home as a son.  Hazel is also survived by her extended family, Karen and Rose Stone and their family.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.  Chaplin James Bolin will officiate for the services.  Burial will be in the Bee Ridge Cemetery southeast of Edina Arthur Whiteaker, Steve Whiteaker, Bobby Whiteaker, Dean Morgret, Joe Myers and Davie Songer as casket bearers and Kent Hagerla, Debbie Hagerla, Karen Stone, Alan Rimer, Bebe Rimer, Mark Rimer as honorary casket bearers.

Music will be provided by Debbie Peters, vocalist and Carol Hayes, organist.  Musical selections will be “Mansion Over The Hill Top”, “In The Garden” and “I Won’t Have To Cross Jordan Alone”.

Visitation will be held 12 noon Saturday, July 8, 2017, till time of services at 2 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.

Billy N. Yates, age 86 of Luray, MO, died peacefully on July 4, 2017 at the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka where he had been a patient since June 29.

Bill was born August 24, 1930 in Chambersburg, MO, a son of Harry M. “Breek” and Bertha James Yates.

He graduated from Luray High School and continued a lifetime of learning until the day he died.

On July 16, 1953, he was united in marriage to Melba Courtney in Kahoka.

Survivors include his wife, Melba, of Luray; his children: Teresa (Herb) Wilson of Kahoka, Chris (Terri Jo) Yates of Kahoka, Nancy (Rick) Burkhart of LaGrange, Mark (Diana) Yates of Luray, Bobbi Jean (Matthew) Hilgenbrinck of Ursa, IL, and, Billie (Rick) Morrow of Kahoka; twenty grandchildren: Jan Dee (Joe) Redding, Jada Wilson, Jillian Wilson (Ethan), Casey Yates, Cari (John) Weaver, Caleb (Carrie) Yates, Angie (Julian) Paulch, Michelle (T.J.) He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Elmer and his wife, Delphene Yates; a sister, Suzie Hopp, and sister-in-law, Barbara Snider; and great-granddaughter, Adalyn Wilson.

Bill was a retired employee of Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a lifetime member of the Mo. Trappers and Fur Trader’s Assn; a member of the National Fur Traders of America, the N.R.A., and well-known for his bobcat catches. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, serving during the Korean conflict.

Bill enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, chopping wood, and anything that involved being outdoors - particularly driving his tractor around his acreage. He worked hard all of his life and kept active and his outdoor activities kept him physically fit and busy. He was a leader to those he was around, always teaching and showing how things were done. In earlier years he loved playing softball and baseball.
It was always special to Bill when he took his grandkids hunting. He cherished and treasured his family and loved being with them. He was a wonderful example to his children as he was devoted to the love of his life, his dear wife Melba. Bill had a gift of talking to anyone and once you met him, you were no longer a stranger.

Private graveside services were held Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Combs Cemetery in Luray with Pastor Dean Tomlinson officiating with burial following. Military Rites were performed by Ayer-Boatman Post 4342, V.F.W., Herman Blum Post # 192, American Legion, and Missouri Military Honors Personnel.

Friends could register on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka.

Memorials were suggested to the Clark Co. Nursing Home activity fund.

Anne Martin

Anne Martin, 89, of Kahoka died Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

She was born January 8, 1928 in Thayer, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Nellie Mildred Walker Garrels. On January 23, 1949 she was united in marriage to Leo R. Martin in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Friday, March, 13, 1981.

Anne graduated from Revere High School with the Class of 1945 as valedictorian. She attended Northeast Missouri College in Kirksville, Missouri.

Leo and Anne farmed for 32 years together in Revere. Besides farming she was employed with the Clark County Nursing Home and at Sheaffer Pen in Ft. Madison. For a few years she was a school teacher in the surrounding area. For fourteen years she was employed at the Clark County Soil and Water District. She was also employed at Shaffer and Sons Funeral Home in Kahoka.

She was a member of the Revere Community Church until the church dissolved. Recently she became a member at the Kahoka Methodist Church. She served on the Revere Church Board and the Revere Alumni Board as secretary for many years. She also served as treasurer and advisory board of Revere Community Center and was president of the Delphinium Garden Club.

Anne enjoyed playing the piano without the necessity of reading music. She would bake her famous chocolate chip cookies and cream puffs without the need of a recipe in which everyone would enjoy. Being on the farm was relaxing to her. This is where she planted her garden and flowers. She loved being with her family and the family get-togethers especially their Memorial Day picnic. In her opinion all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren are all important, special and precious.

She is survived by her two sons, Edward Martin (Jan) of Kahoka, David Martin (Nancy) of Columbus, OH, a daughter, Ellen A. Ayer (Linley Lipper) of Luray, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and her brother Joe Garrels of Kahoka, along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jean Halferty and her husband Stuart, her son in law, Randy Ayer and her sister in law, Mary Garrels.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka. Burial was in the Revere Cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral service from 10 – 11 am at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends at that time.

Colleen R. Elder

Colleen R. Elder, 48, of Kahoka died Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

She was born December 5, 1968 in Muscatine, Iowa. On October 17, 1987 she was united in marriage to James Elder at the United Methodist Church in Wayland, Missouri. He survives.

She is also survived by a daughter; Jena Elder, her mother; Mary Jones both of Kahoka, three brothers; Gary (Lynn) Jones of Kahoka, James (Amee) Jones of Lancaster and Andy (Amy) Jones of Kahoka; two sisters; Terri Jones of Kahoka and Jeanne (Bob) Taylor of Florida, half-brother, Bryan Truitt of Muscatine, mother and father in law; Gerald and Margaret Elder of Kahoka, sister in law; Julie (Bob) Carter of Marked Tree, Arkansas, two brothers in law; Steve Elder of Theodosia, Missouri and Dan Elder of Chadwick, Missouri, along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a special friend, Christy Oilar.

She was preceded in death by her fathers, a son, Matthew Jones Elder and a brother in law, David Elder and her beloved dog, Goldie.

When Colleen wasn’t with her family and friends she could be found at Ayerco where she loved working. She always greeted everyone with a happy “Hi” and a smile. She will long be remembered for her joyous personality and her gift of never meeting a stranger.

Colleen loved to spend hours hunting for Indian arrowheads, reading and researching about them. She enjoyed her companionship with her four legged friend, Goldie, taking her for walks and the occasional car ride. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She will be greatly missed and continually loved and remembered by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Mark Boley officiating. Burial will be in the Chambersburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday with the family meeting with friends from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
