Charles Warren “Charlie” Buford, 83, of rural Donnellson, Iowa passed away at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Donnellson Health Center.

Born August 6, 1932 in Rutledge, Missouri the son of Chester and Orvetta (Spoor) Buford. On January 25, 1959 he married Janet Schreiber.

Survivors include his wife Janet of 57 years, two sons Jeff (Wendy) Buford of Donnellson, David (Lori) Buford of Bonaparte, one daughter; Mary (Bill) Allaman of Oquawka, Illinois, eight grandchildren; Travis (Kara) Buford, Jill (Troy) DeRoos, Tyler Buford, Justin Allaman, Rachael Allaman, Nick Buford, Danielle (Jake) McQuoid and Holly Bevier, four great grandchildren; Ben Buford, Shanna Buford, Madison Hassman and Bentley McQuoid. Also surviving is one sister; Juanita Roberson of Fort Worth, Texas and sisters-in-law; Eunice Buford, Amah Lou Schreiber, Rose Schreiber and one brother-in-law; Gale Schreiber all of Kahoka, Missouri and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter; Carol Buford, grandson; Zachary Bevier and brother; Harlan Buford.

Charlie was a graduate of Revere High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifelong farmer and a rural mail carrier in the RR2 Donnellson area from which he retired in 1992. Charlie was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association. He enjoyed family, wheeler rides, auctions, antiques and family history.

Friends may call after 1:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2016 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, Iowa  where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Pastor Jamey Stout officiating.

Burial will be at the Embury Cemetery in rural Donnellson, Iowa.

Memorials have been established in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Embury Cemetery.

Billy Sedelmeier

Mr. William Charles (Billy) Sedelmeier Jr., age 57, of Maywood, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Born March 28, 1959 in Quincy, Illinois, Billy was a son of William C. and Marilyn L. Harris Sedelmeier Sr.
Billy was a farmer at heart and enjoyed this work all of his life. He also enjoyed anything John Deere, old things, hunting, tractors, coin collecting, Chevrolet and Windmills. Billy graduated from Highland High School in 1978 and was of the Catholic Faith. He was a member of the NRA.
Survivors include two sons, Shane Sedelmeier of Bethel, Missouri, and Kent (Nicole) Sedelmeier of Oceanside, California; sisters, Penny (Richard) Slawson of Holt Summit, Missouri, Vicki Whitaker of Ewing, Missouri, and Judy (Dennis) Lair of Ewing, Missouri; brother, Gene (Barb) Sedelmeier of Ewing, Missouri; two grandchildren, Tristan and Eliana Sedelmeier both of Oceanside, California; step mother, Esther Sedelmeier of Quincy; step-sisters, Sharon (Terry) Bolterman of St. Louis, Terry (Jim) Schafinit of Quincy, Brenda Hudson of Shawnee, Kansas, Melinda Bausano of Rochester, Illinois; step brother Randy Loscher of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his mother Marilyn Loscher, father Bill Sedelmeier, step father Charles Loscher, brother John Sedelmeier, step-sister, Karen Welch and special friend, Raymond Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Kris Palmer officiating. Music will be “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Burial will be in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Ewing. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing. Pallbearers will be Shane Sedelmeier, Kent Sedelmeier, Aron Sedelmeier, Johnny Sedelmeier, Art Stutsman and Dale Smith.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Veterans Movement attention Brannon Knox or the charity of the Donor’s Choice in care of Ball-Davis Funeral Home, Ewing, MO.

Vera Ferne Hall, age 91, of Kahoka, MO, formerly of the Williamstown area, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Vera was born October 27, 1924, near Kahoka, MO, a daughter of Earl William and Edna Muhrer Hunziker.

She was married to Robert E. Hall on December 26, 1943 in the E & R Church in Kahoka.

Survivors include one son, Harold (Marilyn) Hall of Williamstown, MO; son-in-law, Bill Kelley of Carlinville, IL; five grandchildren: Corey Hall and fiancé, Melissa Barber of Gillman, IL, Jeremy (Libby) Hall of Carthage, IL, Darren Hall of Williamstown, MO, Andy McCoy of Springfield, IL, and Christopher McCoy of Carbondale, IL; eight great-grandchildren: Caroline, Sierra, Cheyenne, Bryce and Madison Hall and Olivia, David and Sam McCoy; a sister, Erma Reynolds of Georgetown, TX; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Janet Kelley; and brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Maxine Hunziker; and brother-in-law, Wendell Reynolds.

Vera attended Enterprise school and graduated from Kahoka High School.

She spent her life as a homemaker and farm wife alongside her husband, Robert. She put in a large garden, raised various livestock and cared for them, and all that goes along in running a farm. She was very content in her life, choosing to stay on the farm for the most part and visiting with neighbors and family. She also loved to read and watch hummingbirds and other small animals that would visit near her window. She was a life-long member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 12, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Dixie Laube officiating. Music was provided by vocalist, Mr. HL Plenge, singing "In The Garden". Burial followed in the Kahoka Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jeremy Hall, Darren Hall, Andy McCoy, Chris McCoy, Henry Heinze, Terry Hunziker, Corey Hall and Bryce Hall.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after noon on Saturday with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ or the donor’s choice.

Bill Leeser

Mr. William E. Leeser, age 93, of La Grange, MO passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, Missouri.

He was born December 9, 1922 in La Grange, Mo a son of Earl and Edna Tatje Leeser. He married Joann Schnellbacher on July 12, 1953 in La Grange, MO. She survives.

Bill was a 1940 graduate of La Grange High School. After school he traveled to California to work in the shipyards. While in California he played baseball for the Cardinals Minor League Team. Bill had served as President of the Northeast MO Referee Basketball Association and also refereed for over 20 years. He was also an avid bowler.

He had worked at Merkel’s in Quincy for over 50 years as a sporting goods salesman retiring when the store closed. He was a member of the La Grange United Methodist Church and former member of River Valley Country Club. Bill served on the Lewis County School Board when the district was first formed and had also been the first booster club president for the district.

Survivors include his wife Joann Leeser of La Grange; one son, Brian (Kerri) Leeser of LaGrange; one brother, Melvin Leeser of Soddy-Daisy, TN; one sister, Mary Jennens of West Carrolton, OH; two grandsons, William L. and James E. Leeser of La Grange and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jim, Earl Joe, and George Leeser and one sister, Louise Lawson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in La Grange, MO with Reverend Steve Martin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in La Grange. Visitation will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in La Grange.

The family suggests memorials be made to the La Grange Baseball Association.

Lloyd Allen Adams, 79, Shelbina, died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Mo.

He was born November 11, 1936 in Oakland City, Ind., the son of John Adams and Dorothy Lamon. He married Gladyce “Cookie” Weightman. He later married Evelyn Benaroo. Both preceded him in death.

Survivors include six children, Jan Taylor and husband, J.T. Boise, Idaho, Debra Sutton, Shelbina, Jackie Drage and husband, Douglas, Columbia, Kelly Patton and husband, Jeff, Overland Park, KS, Curt Connaway, Sedalia, and Margie Lorey and husband, Matt, Shelbina; two step-children, Carla Weber, California, and Edward Pena, El Cajon, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, Kyle, Meagan, Danielle, Ryan, Tristan, Katie, Christopher Jon, Ysabelle, Lily, Derek, Shelby, Maya, Nicholas Heidi, and TJ; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond, “Woody” Adams, Washington, and Richard Adams, Evansville, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Adams spent most of his life in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years, where he retired as Chief Petty officer. He en-joyed traveling, playing golf, reading, and listening to the music group, Queen. He loved cars, especially Jaguars. Playing with his great-grandchildren was his biggest joy.

Visitation will be held Thurs-day, June 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be at Jacksonville Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville, following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 376.

Randy E. Yates, age 30, of Wyaconda, MO, died on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the emergency room of Scotland County Memorial Hospital following a motorcycle/farm equipment accident near Wyaconda.

Randy was born August 20, 1985 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Kevin and Helen Tucker Yates.

On October 15, 2011 he was united in marriage to Lakin L. Sturm near Revere at Sweet Home. To this union two children were born, Ryleigh and Raelynn.

Survivors include his wife, Lakin, of Wyaconda; three children: Remington Yates of Columbia, MO, and Ryleigh and Raelynn Yates of Wyaconda; his parents: Kevin (Terrisa) Yates of Revere and Helen Hayes of Wyaconda; his in-laws, Sabrina (Doug) Smeltser of Wayland; grandparents: Gene (Linda) Yates of Revere, Joanne Shaw of Kahoka, Goldie (Bud) Laymon of Revere, John Tucker of Alexandria; grandparents in-law, Cindy Fields of Wayland and Brenda Sturm of Ainsworth, IA; brothers and sisters: Christina (Mikele) Farmer of Revere, Austin Ball and fiancé Randi Barker of Wayland, Matthew (Brandy) Kelley of Hamilton, Dwaine (Jamee) Kelley of Medill and Trisha (Bronson) Worrell of Kahoka; brothers and sisters-in-law: Colten Sturm of Wayland, Erica Sturm of Keokuk, Markie Ash of Wayland, Gordon Smeltser of Quincy, David Smeltser and Logan Smeltser both of Wayland, and Brandy Boecker of St. Francisville; best friends, Mike Smith of Kahoka, Craig Ott of Williamstown, and Jeff Ludwig of Wayland; as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Helen Tucker and Mike Shaw; uncles Randy Eugene Yates and Matt Wilson; and aunt, Gina Yates Wagner.

Randy attended Revere High School and was a certified master welder and crane operator. He was a former employee of Caldwell Tank, Inc. which required him to travel and spend time away from his family. He was currently employed by Gregory Container in Kahoka which allowed him to be with his family whom he loved so much.

He was a baptized member of the Peaksville Christian Church where members of his family have attended for many years.

Randy was a true outdoorsman and an avid hunter and fisherman. His true passion was working on his motorcycle and riding with Lakin and his Tunnel Rats M.C. brothers and sisters. He was actively involved in the Rust Revivals held at Wayland. He touched the lives of those he met and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He had a deep love for his siblings, extended family, and friends and spending time with them was very important to him. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family dearly and put their needs ahead of his own.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee and Pastor Andy Bunnell officiating. Inurnment will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Cremation will follow.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to his wife, Lakin.

Charlotte Bertha Fox, 87, of Wayland, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. She was born April 16, 1929, the daughter of Wesley Luke Cannon and Bernice (Crum) Cannon. She married the love of her life on September 4, 1947, David McCabe "Bud" Fox at the Methodist parsonage in Kahoka, Missouri.

She is survived by her two sons, David Kent Fox and wife Lynne of Quincy, Illinois; and Kevin Wynn Fox and wife Paula of near St. Patrick, Missouri; four grandchildren: David Todd Fox and wife Stephanie; Rhonda Holt and husband John; Kurt Fox and wife Dawn, and Amanda McCreedy and husband Colin; seven great grandchildren: Carter Fox, Madison Fox, Quinn Holt, Brecken Fox, Ella Kate Fox, Luke Holt and McCabe McCreedy; one sister, Barbara Steele; three brothers: Edwin Cannon and wife Deloris; Keith Cannon and wife Joan; Rodney Cannon and wife Arlene, sisters-in-law: Ella Cannon, who was her special friend, Betty Fox, and Sally Fox; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David McCabe Fox, her parents: Wesley and Bernice Cannon, and three brothers: Guy Cannon, Robert Cannon and Kenneth Cannon.

Charlotte was a devoted member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church, Past Elder at Alexandria Presbyterian and at the time of her death was serving as Sunday School Treasurer, Preschool Sunday School Teacher and Church Historian, all of which she served for many, many years. One of the pleasures of being a Sunday school teacher was being able to start young people with a good Christian foundation for their life, and her great grandson McCabe was one of her last students. Charlotte had also taught the adults and young adults over the years as well as Vacation Bible School, and was committed to the Women of the Church organization. She loved her church family has much as she did her biological family.

In 1947, Charlotte graduated from beautician school and did hair for many family and friends over the years. She was a member of the Kahoka #40 Order of the Eastern Star-Wayland and sixty year member of the Primrose FCE Club. Charlotte also served as the Survivor Chairman for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Clark County for fifteen years.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street, with Rev. David Castrodale officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, Missouri. Visitation will be held after 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 18, 2016, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 PM.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice.

Mrs. Aloma Virginia Turner Shoop, age 70, of Maywood, MO passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in the Lewis County Nursing Home at Canton, MO.

She was born on August 14, 1945 in Dover, MO a daughter of William and Maxine (Shires) Turner. She married Larry Schroder in 1962 and later married Jerry L. Shoop on October 23, 1976. He died July 26, 2014.

Aloma was a member of the Dover Baptist Church in youth. She was employed by Motorola and also worked at the Mississippi Grill. She was an Election Volunteer and spent the last 38 years as a housewife. Her hobbies included house tours, garden club, trout fishing, camping, shopping trips, and spending time with family and friends. She and Jerry especially enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and traveling to Colorado each year with her siblings.

Survivors include her children; Jamie (Lisa) Schroder of Maywood, MO, Jason Shoop of Canton, MO and Theresa Jarland of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Ryan (Tonya) Schroder of La Grange, MO, Randi (Jeremy) Sparrow of Canton, and Sierra and Devin Schroder of Maywood, MO; great grandchildren, Rylee and Zane Schroder of La Grange, and Madison, Brooklyn and Cody Sparrow of Canton; brother, Billy (Shirley) Turner of Ewing, and sister, Betty (Don) Fifer of Ewing; sister and brother in law, Harold and Peggy Wiesmann of La Grange, and mother in law, Carlene Shoop of Canton. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside services and burial will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dover Cemetery near La Grange with Pastor Russell Brownell officiating. There will not be any public visitation but friends are invited to the committal service.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Dover Cemetery Association in care of the Ball-Davis Funeral Home, Ewing, MO.

Pallbearers will be: Jim Turner, Mike Nichols, Denny Sheridan, Rick Sheridan, Jeremy Sparrow and Ryan Schroder.

Dorothy L. Vogel, 85, of La Mirada, CA (formerly of Kahoka, Missouri and Keokuk, Iowa), passed away peacefully at Whittier Place Senior Living Care, on June 1, 2016.

Dorothy was born April 7, 1931 in Keokuk, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Ida and Louis Zinnert of Kahoka, Missouri.

She was united in marriage to Richard Vogel in May of 1955 in Kahoka, and Richard proceeded her in death on October 10, 2007.

Dorothy graduated from Kahoka High in 1949 where she played in the high school band.  She loved English, social studies, and music.  As a young woman, she became a piano teacher and organist, performing at several of the local churches in Kahoka and Keokuk.  She was a good writer, and she worked first at the local newspaper in Kahoka, and then at the Daily Gate City in Keokuk in the 1950s.

After their marriage, Richard and Dorothy moved to Southern California, purchasing their home in La Mirada, CA in 1964.  There, they would raise their two children, Karen and James.

Dorothy and Richard adored taking road trips with their family to the national parks and back to Missouri and Iowa to visit relatives and friends.  Dorothy especially loved the big trees (redwoods) in northern California, visiting Laguna Beach, and Las Vegas.  She also found the big, beautiful clouds in wide open skies to be her inspiration and source of peace.  She enjoyed old movies, especially Gone with the Wind, and anything that was a Western or with John Wayne.  She also had many fond memories and stories to share about growing up in Missouri and Iowa.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Karen Vogel, and son-in-law, Venu Turlapaty, of Vadnais Heights, MN; son, James Vogel, and daughter-in-law, Odette Vogel of Maryville, TN; grandson, Daniel Vogel, of Lake Forest, CA; and niece, Angela Gutting, of Quincy, Illinois.

Besides her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Louis Zinnert; sister, Julia Gutting, and brother-in-law, Vernon Gutting.

Burial occurred at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, CA on June 8th, 2016.

Rosetta Worster

Rosetta Worster, 81, of Alexandria, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at her home in Alexandria. Arrangements are pending at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers.

Rosetta was born in Alexandria, Missouri, on December 18, 1934, the daughter of Thomas and Violet Davis Mortimer. On December 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to James Eldon Worster in Lima, Illinois. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2015.

A life-long resident of Alexandria, Rosetta was a member of the Alexandria Baptist Church and was employed at Sheller-Globe for twenty-five years. She was a very active member of Local #444, and served as the divisional chairperson. Rosetta was an avid bowler, bowling in state and national tournaments, as well as with her family. Her hobbies included reading and traveling with her grandchildren.

Rosetta is survived by her daughters: Arlene (Lonnie) Kinkeade of Keokuk and Judy (Samuel) Wilson of Donnellson;  her sons: James Eldon Worster, Jr., of Alexandria and George (Becky) Worster of Keokuk; her sister Janice Peggy (Robert) Conover of Kahoka; her three brothers: Laroy “Jack” Mortimer of Keokuk, Robert “Bobby” Mortimer of Keokuk and Raymond (Sara) Mortimer of Monmouth, Illinois; and her grandchildren: Gene (Lori) Kinkeade of Keokuk; Brian (Megan) Kinkeade of Keokuk; Kristopher Moore of Fort Madison; Daniel (Heather) Moore of Fort Madison; Jennifer (Ryan) Bourgeois of Kahoka; and Ashley (Shad) Manning of Agency, Iowa. Other survivors include her sister-in-law Deloris Mortimer of Kahoka, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rosetta is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Tommy and Fuller Mortimer, and her sister Betty Miller.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 24, 2016, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers at 917 Blondeau Street, with Pastor Randy Ewart officiating. Burial will follow at Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 23, from 4 to 8 PM, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 PM, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers at 917 Blondeau Street.

Memorials may be directed to the Alexander Baptist Church or Hospice of Northeast Missouri.

Norma Miles Obit

Norma Jean (Ripley) Miles, 96, died Friday, June 17, at the Hawthorne Inn Assisted Living Facility in Lakeland, Fla.

She was born in McFall, Mo., on December 18, 1919, the daughter of Dale Canady and Ruth (Allen) Ripley. Excelling academically, she skipped two elementary grades in one morning, later graduating with Carl’s 1936 high school class in Cameron. She attended Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, receiving a teaching certificate after completion of a two-year program, and taught elementary school for two years in Fillmore. In 1940, she married Carl Miles in St. Louis and took up residence in Trenton, MJ, while Carl pitched for Connie Mack’s Philadelphia Athletics and supported the war effort. Mrs. Miles was a  homemaker and mother.

Survivors include her husband of 75 years; one daughter, Nancy Cote (Rick), Lakeland, Fla., son, Tom (Mary Jo), Abilene, Kan; brother, Lowell Allen Ripley (Phyllis), Leesburg, Fla; grandchildren, Bryan Miles, Johnny Miles (Tracey), David Clausen (Alina), and Laura Ransom (JT); one great-granddaughter, Emmie Clausen,; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Mrs. Miles was active in Christian Women’s Fellowship and the PEO Sisterhood. She returned to school in 1969, graduating with a Bachelor of Education degree at Central College in Pella, Iowa, in 1971. She was a teacher evaluator for the Des Moines (Iowa) school District, typed Carl’s Iowa Education Department reports, worked for the National P.E.O. Sisterhood office in Des Moines, and worked part-time over the years in gift shops and children’s clothing stores.

She was an excellent musician and pianist who encouraged her children and grandchildren to put their inherited musical talent to good use. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and even co-led a Cub Scout troop  in Centerville Iowa. Retirement took Norma and Carl to Horseshoe Bend, Ark. for 13 years, to Lenoir Woods in Columbia for 11 years, and to Lakeland, Fla with time to enjoy their grandchildren and a warmer climate.

A graveside service will be held at the Shelbina Cemetery at a later date with arrangements handled by Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Memorials may be given to Hawthorne Inn and the Cornerstone Hospice.

Robert Emerson Dunn, 83, Bethel, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, Mo.

He was born August 9, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Roy E. Dunn and Nellie Wahl. He married Lois German. She preceded him in death.

Other survivors include two children, Dan Dunn, Bethel, and Kirk Dunn and wife, Debbie, Kansas City; six grandchildren, James Dunn, David Dunn, Rebecca Dunn, Daniel Dunn, David Dunn, and Brian Dunn; two great-grandchildren, Lana Hurich and Kendalyn Dunn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter, Kelly Ann Dunn.

Mr. Dunn worked for Whirlpool and as a grain and livestock farmer around Galesburg, Ill. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the cabin on Spoon River in Illinois. After retirement he settled with his son in Bethel.

A private family service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Fern Gudehus

Amelia “Fern” Small Gudehus, 97, of Memphis, Missouri, formerly of Edina, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.

Born on April 30, 1919, in Lewis County, Missouri, near Williamstown, Fern was the daughter of William Elbert “Bert” and Lydia McClain Nichols. She attended Fairview Rural School, north of Williamstown, and graduated Valedictorian from the Williamstown High School in the Class of 1937. Fern was united in marriage to Dorsey Cleotis Small on July 15, 1937, in Williamstown, Missouri, and to this union five sons were born. They resided on a farm north of Edina, Missouri, where they raised their children. Cleotis passed away August 25, 1961 and she moved to Memphis, Missouri where she opened a café “Small’s Diner” for a few years and worked as a cook at the Scotland County Care Center for more than 17 years. Throughout the years she worked many places including, Dryden’s and Keokuk, Iowa; Davis­ Cleaver in Quincy, Illinois; Parthey’s Café in Knox City, Missouri, and Farm and Home, Thelma’s Coffee Shop, Maid Rite, and West Side Café all of Edina, Missouri. On April 14, 1986, in Kahoka, Missouri, Fern married Glen Gudehus and they resided in Edina, Missouri until moving to the Knox County RCF, in October of 2005, where Glen passed away on March 30, 2006. She later moved to the Scotland County RCF and then to the Scotland County Nursing Home as her health failed. Fern loved to bake pies and cookies and one of her greatest joys was having family around and cooking for them.

Fern is survived by her sons, Ralph and Nita Small of Downing, Missouri, Richard “Dick” and Mary Small of Milton, Iowa, Tommy and Rosella Small of Edina, Missouri, and Jimmie Small of Kirksville, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Steve Small of Kansas City, Missouri, Sherri and Herb Huntsman of Downing, Missouri, Scott Small of Downing, Missouri, Dorsey and Suzanne Small of Louisburg, Kansas, Dean and Cate Small of Creve Coeur, Missouri, Erin Small of Columbia, Missouri, Beverly Hayes of Edina, Missouri, Richard W. Small of Milton, Iowa, and David Small of Centerville, Iowa; a sister-­in-­law, Mildred Nichols of Republic, Missouri; fifteen great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; ten step great-great grandchildren. Fern is also survived by two step sons, Gene Gudehus of Steel, Missouri and David and Judy Gudehus of Moberly, Missouri; a step-daughter, Jane Ann Heimer of Edina, Missouri; a step daughter-­in-­law, Claudette Gudehus of Edina, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a son, Charles “Sunny” Small; seven brothers, Lloyd and Carmelita, Ruby and Viva and Maxine, Leland and Nellie, Leo and Helen, Thomas and Lola Mae, Charlie and Eleanor, and Cecil; a sister, Gladys Mitchell and a step son, Jerry Gudehus.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Visitation will be after 12:00 noon, Saturday, with the family receiving friends until the service time. Burial will be in the Linville Cemetery in Edina, Missouri. Casket Bearers will be Dorsey Small, Dean Small, Scott Small, Steve Small, Richard W. Small, and David Small. An expression of sympathy may be left to the Linville Cemetery Association. Ronnie Waibel

Ronald Stephen “Ronnie” Waibel, 62, of West Monroe, Louisiana, formerly of Knox County, Missouri, passed into a loving world with Jesus Christ on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the LSU Health Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Ronnie was born in Kirksville, Missouri on December 8, 1953. Growing up Ronnie was a loving child, he loved to play games, cards and he participated in flag football, 4­H activities, singing in a group that consisted of his mother and sister at the Novelty Christian Church. He gave his life to Christ when he was young. He loved studying the Bible and if someone quoted a verse he could tell you where it was from.  He was mom’s fix­it man, working on toasters, water pumps and always tinkering on whatever needed fixing.  He was so good at it that his mom once told him to open a fix­it shop. Ronnie also loved to cook along with his sister Rhonda, whom they both took cooking classes under their mother, who was a 4­H leader.  Ronnie graduated eighth grade at the Novelty Grade School in Novelty, Missouri and attended the Knox County High School in Edina, Missouri. He was a big kidder and loved to make people laugh, especially children when they were upset about something. He enlisted and served his country in the United States Air Force from 1973 to 1975, took his basic training in San Antonio, Texas and served at Maelstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where he served a missile site. After being honorably discharged, he tried living in Missouri but his love for Louisiana was greater.

On November 27, 1998, in Novelty, Missouri, Ronnie married Deborah Sue Sparrow Leckbee. Ronnie and Deborah moved to West Monroe, Louisiana, in October of 2006, where he worked a number of years with the Wal­Mart Super Center Security and with Universal Protection Services until his health failed.

There is a big hole in our hearts from the loss of Ronnie.  He will always be missed greatly.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Deborah Sue Waibel of West Monroe, Louisiana; his mother, Rita Deane Fetters Waibel of Edina, Missouri; two daughters, Miyo Marie Cox of Bossier, Louisiana, and Tonya and David Bodkin of Vandalia, Missouri; a sister, Rhonda Lynn Waibel Chadwell Weed and husband Mike of Pensacola, Florida; a brother, Roger Paul Waibel and his wife Tina of Edina, Missouri; four grandchildren, Lisa Marie Hale, Stephen Howell, Miguel Lopez and Cherokee Lopez; two step­daughters, Shelly and Eddie Shackleford of Boonville, Missouri, and Kay and Jeff Allison of Shelbyville, Missouri; a step­son, Randall and Lindsey Leckbee of Kirksville, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Ryan Shackleford, Levi Cullifer and Ivy Leckbee; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Richard Waibel in 1998; grandparents, Edgar and Ethel Fetters and Berna Irene Waibel; an uncle Stanley Eugene Fetters and his wife, Velma; and a cousin, Vicki Jean Thomas.

Ronnie’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will have Military Graveside Honors at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the Jacksonville State Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville, Missouri.

Wayne Welker

Wayne N. Welker, age 89 of Kahoka, formerly of Williamstown, MO passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in the Clark Co. Nursing Home in Kahoka.

Wayne was born January 31, 1927 at Williamstown, a son of Frank and Enola S. Brookhart Welker.

He married Norma Grinstead on March 17, 1950.  She survives.

In addition to his wife, Norma, survivors include two sons, Stanley (Kathy) Welker of Kahoka and Virgil (Susie) Welker of Canton; one daughter, Marlys (Ken) Treaster of Hannibal; seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Bert) Slater, Amanda Welker, Andy Welker and fiancé Amy Kelly and Josh (Brittany) Welker, all of Canton; Jerod Welker of Quincy, April (Mark) Holzem of Jefferson City and Ashley Treaster of St. Louis; six great-grandchildren: Sophie, Olivia, and Bella Slater, Jordyn Rutherford, Nolan Welker and Kenley Holzem; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Tommie Dee Welker of Wayland, Willis (Rosie) Grinstead of Kansas City, KS and Dorothy Grinstead of St. Louis; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, George and Clara Taylor Grinstead; brothers: Arnold, Floyd, Richard, Franklin, and Virgil Welker; and brothers-in-law, Raymond and Jack Grinstead.

Wayne graduated from Kahoka High School and served in the U. S. Navy.   He was able to go on the Honor Flight accompanied by his son, Virgil, on September 16, 2010, and really enjoyed that opportunity.  Wayne belonged to the Otto Bruner Post # 170 of the American Legion in Canton.

He farmed all of his life and for 31 years served as Postmaster at Williamstown.  Wayne was a life-time member of the South Wyaconda Bapist Church and was dedicated to the church and his church family.  He had served as treasurer for many years.  He was also a member of the Ballard Cemetery Board.

Wayne was a founding member and president of the Clark Co. Water District for over 40 years.  He was a member of Williamstown Masonic Lodge # 370 and Monticello Masonic Lodge # 58 and of the Supreme Council.  In addition, he was a member of Kahoka Chapter # 40, Order of the Eastern Stars.

Wayne loved family gatherings together with homemade ice cream and corn on the cob.  He grew a large sweet corn patch and shared it with everyone.  In later years, Wayne loved to drive around and check on the farms and land he loved so dearly.  He had a generosity beyond measure to his children and their families.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with burial and military rites following in the Ballard Cemetery.

Officiating at the service is Pastor Orlie Yoder with eulogist, Andy Welker.  Pianist and guitarist are grandchildren, April Holzem and Josh Welker. Additional selection was “How Great Thou Art” with additional music, “Amazing Grace”.

Honorary pallbearers are Stephanie Welker, Amanda Welker, April Holzem, Ashley Treaster, Amy Kelly and Brittany Welker.  Pallbearers are Andy Welker, Josh Welker, Jerod Welker, Mark Holzem, Bert Slater and Ken Treaster.

Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a public masonic service at 7:30.

Memorials were suggested to the Ballard Cemetery or the South Wyaconda Baptist Church.

Roscoe(Buddy) Martin Neuendorf, age 90, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Elmcroft in Tempe, Arizona.  He was born on July 13, 1925 in Kahoka, Missouri to Carl and Bernice Arnold Neuendorf. Roscoe grew up in Kahoka and graduated from Kahoka High School in 1943. After high school he joined the United States Navy in 1943 and proudly served until retiring in 1965, achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.   Roscoe served in WWII and the Korean War.

After retiring from the Navy he relocated from San Diego, California to Tempe, Arizona where he worked for Motorola until retiring after 20 years.

Roscoe is survived by his wife Dessie Lucille Neuendorf, originally from LaGrange, Missouri, two daughters, April (Gary) Skelton and Kathe Rodgers, three grandchildren, Commander Troy (Loretta) Fendrick, USN, Shyla (Scott) Roderick and Amber (Seth) Quick and five great grandchildren, Taylor Fendrick, Aidan Crean, Riley and Bryce Roderick and Gage Quick, as well as one sister, Maurine Gallaher.  He was predeceased by his sister Maxine Neuendorf Hunziker.

A family celebration of Roscoe’s life was held at the family home in Tempe, Arizona on Saturday, April 9, 2016.  A military burial at sea will take place from the USS Jackson under the command of his grandson Commander Troy Fendrick.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society or the Companion Hospice.

John Stutsman JR

John Alexander Stutsman Jr., 86, Florissant, Missouri, died Tuesday June 28, 2016, at Saint Sophia’s Nursing Home, Florissant, Missouri.

Born on September 20, 1929, in Edina, Knox County, Missouri, John was the son of John Alexander Sr. and Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth (Thacker) Stutsman.

He served in the United States Navy during Peacetime and the Korean conflict. He followed in his father’s footsteps as a butcher and meat cutter. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a Meat Inspector on January 3, 1992.

He married Lois Arlene Vance on November 12, 1950, who survives him. Survivors include four children John Vance (Kathy) Stutsman, Marsha Kae Stutsman, Mark Alan (Mary Ann) Stutsman, and Lisa Dawn Callahan. The grandchildren are Brian John (Kimberly) Stutsman, Kaelee Danielle Callahan (John Chiapelas), Angelica V. Stutsman, Mark Allan Stutsman, Michael John Stutsman. Great Grandchildren are Luke Benjamin Stutsman, Veronica Nicole Stutsman, Owen Nicholas Chipelas, Brilee Marie Chipelas, Paeton Alivia Chipelas, and Marlee Kae Chipelas.

Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings Albert N. Stutsman, Marie Stutsman Sharp, Dorotha Stutsman Bradney, Rebecca Stutsman Mustoe, Mary Stutsman Norton, and a son Larry Brent Stutsman.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2016, at Alexander-White-Mullen funeral home, Saint Ann, Missouri. Appetizers will be served. Service 7 to 7:30 p.m.

Burial will be at Linville Cemetery, Edina, Missouri at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016.

Patricia Ann Dye, age 87, of Bradenton, Florida, and formerly of Baring, passed away June 8, 2016, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.

Mrs. Dye was born in Knox County on December 12, 1928, the daughter of Fred William and Sarah Frances (Miller) Queen.  On October 2, 1948, she married Kenneth Wayne Dye who proceeded her in death on September 2, 2001.

Mrs. Dye is survived by three daughters:  Connie Clark of Bradenton; Karen Burch Dickens and husband, Phil, of Blue Springs; and Sheila Dye of Bradenton.  She is also survived by five grandchildren:  Lesa Davis, Regina Parr, Ryan Burch, Cody Burch, and Shyanne Payne; one great-granddaughter, Amber Everhart; one half-sister, Violet Woodard; and two nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Fred Leone Queen; a sister, Arlene Carlotta Karhoff; and two siblings who died in infancy, J.W. and Wanda Lou.

Mrs. Dye lived most of her life in Knox County, attending Rule School and graduating from Baring High School in 1946 and the Kansas City Secretarial School in 1948.  She and her husband farmed in the Baring community until 1975.  Mrs. Dye worked as a bookkeeper at the Childress Elevator in Baring and the Baring Country Club and as a secretary at Baring School for many years.  Mr. and Mrs. Dye moved to Edina in 1975, then to Osage Beach in 1983, where     Mrs. Dye was a store manager on the Bagnell Dam Strip, and she and her husband were managers of the Williamsburg Inn in Osage Beach.  Mr. and Mrs. Dye moved to Baring in 1993 and then to Kirksville in 1997, where Mrs. Dye was a secretary and receptionist at KCOM-AHEC.  After the loss of her husband in 2001, Mrs. Dye lived in Eldon and Camdenton, and then moved to Bradenton in 2011.

Mrs. Dye was a member of the Baring Community Church where she served as Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher for many years.  She was a 25-year member of the Greensburg Chapter #258 Order of the Eastern Star of Missouri, now the Colony Chapter #543.  She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and a 4-H leader for many years.

Funeral services were Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel at Edina, with Reverend Dan Todd officiating.  The family suggests that friends wear bright-colored clothing to help celebrate the life of Mrs. Dye who loved those colors so much.  Music was provided by Brent Karhoff, soloist and Carol Hayes, organist.

Burial was in the Slocum Cemetery at the Pleasant Ridge Church, west of Greensburg.

Casket bearers will be Ryan Burch, Cody Burch, Gary Waite, Albert Dye, Kevin Moore and Larry Deves.  Honorary bearers will be Ray Hasenjaeger, Byron Fowler, Jim Scott, Donnie and Betty Harrison, Tyke Harlow, Esty Eyler, and Zelda Gilbert.

Clementine Meyer Porter, 85, of rural Knox City passed away June 30, 2016 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.  She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death and will be terribly missed, forever loved and remembered always.

Born October 3, 1930 on the family farm in rural Pike County, Missouri, she was the daughter of Ferd and Laura Meyer. She married Donald W. Porter on June 24, 1953 at St. Clement Catholic Church near Bowling Green, Missouri.

She was a great wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, caregiver, and friend. She prided herself in taking care of her family and loved having her family around. She was a fantastic cook, seamstress and homemaker.

After Mr. Porter’s death, she started annual “mother-daughter” trips which took them to Savannah, New York, New Orleans, Cancun, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. This was a highlight for her and her girls.

She attended St. Clement Catholic School and Bowling Green High School.

Mrs. Porter worked for the US Postal Service for 25 years and also worked side by side on the family farm with her husband. She always had a beautiful garden. Her passion was maintaining her yard and keeping her home in pristine condition. She was a member of St. Ann’s Solidarity and enjoyed cooking and helping with the funeral dinners. Mrs. Porter volunteered at the Knox County Nursing Home for many years. She was also a 50 year member of the Knox City American Legion Auxiliary #358.

Clem loved and raised three daughters: Beverly Peters (Mike), Peggy Briscoe (Worm), and Nancy Stitzer (Phil).

She loved five grandchildren: Brad Peters (Sara), Deanne Tepen (Josh), Brett Peters (Amy), Ashton Blumberg (Scott), and Tanner Stitzer.

Mrs. Porter loved seven great-grandchildren: Brianna Murphy, Cole Peters, Porter Peters, Cooper Peters, Kyla Tepen, Kase Tepen, and Sydney Peters.

She is survived by two brothers, Mel (Bea) and Art (Delores) Meyer of Bowling Green, Mo. Three sisters Vera (Bill) Smith of Gardendale, TX, Mary (Duke) Orf of Bowling Green, Mo., and Martha Hoggard of Gardendale, TX. Her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Bernard) Gronek of St. Peters, Missouri, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandparents, and one brother.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016, beginning at 9 am till the time of memorial services at 10:30 am at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel, Edina, MO. Private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Altar Society in Edina, MO or Knox County Nursing Home Staff and Residents Memorial Fund to be designated later.   Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, MO 63537.

Betty Walker

Betty Lou Walker, age 80, of Ewing, Missouri, formerly of Knox County, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

She was born October 2, 1935, in Knox County, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence Leslie and Nellie Neoma Pruett Parton.

She was united in marriage to Lyle Walker in 1951, in Knox City, Missouri, and he preceded her in death, and to this union three children were born.

Surviving are two children, Carrie Walker Bowen Goehl of Ewing, Missouri, and Dan Walker and Carol of LaPlata, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Peggy Walker Johnston and Steve of Maywood, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kellie Bowen Moyers and Jeff, Tommy Jean Bowen and Melissa, Derek E. Walker and Jeffrey, Sierra Rose Walker and friend, Matt, Tonya Lair and Bobby, and Jason Walker; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, David L. Walker; two brothers, Berly Leslie Parton and William L. Parton; and one sister, Beulah Stutsman.

Betty received her education in Edina Schools.  She was a homemaker and caregiver in Knox and Lewis Counties.  She was proud of her Native American heritage and enjoyed reading, Westerns, St. Louis Cardinals, John Deere memorabilia, and watching her grandkids playing ball.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, in the Knox City Cemetery.  Pastor Paul Burton will officiate for the services.  Musical selections will be, I’ll Fly Away and Old Rugged Cross.   There will be no visitation.
