Waymond Parsons

Waymond Parsons, age 91, of Shelbina, MO, passed away Monday, March 28, 2016, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, MO.

He was born June 17, 1924, in Epworth, MO, the son of Brode and Beulah Craigmyle Parsons. On November 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ramsdale at Shelbina, MO. She survives.

Waymond is also survived by three children, Jack Parsons and wife Cindy of Shelbina, MO, Tony Parsons and wife Jennifer of Shelbina, MO and Bonnie Rigney and husband Robert of Plainfield, Il; eight grandchildren, Robert Parsons, Todd (Melissa) Parsons, Heather (Daniel) Delossantos, Jason (Chrie) Parsons, Jack Parsons, Jr, Kristine (Cody) Collins, Sarah (Jason) Ahten and Aaron Rigney; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine Nagel of Edina, Louise Bachman of Macon, MO and Erma Jean Dennis of Quincy, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Waymond was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was employed as a Security Guard at Cerro Copper for many years. He enjoyed bowling, mowing, helping at Midwest Tire and working at the Factory. He loved babies and his family was his greatest joy and he enjoyed the time spent with them.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO, with burial to follow in Shelbina Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Funeral Home in Shelbina. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Children’s Ranch or Donor’s Choice.

Wilma J. Dienst, age 95, of Kahoka, MO, died peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2016 in her apartment at the RCF in Kahoka.

Wilma was born June 4, 1920 near Primrose in Van Buren Co, IA, a daughter of William and Sarah Schrepfer Corr.

She was united in marriage to Floyd H. Dienst on February 16, 1947 at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1995.

Survivors include a son, Henry W. (Deborah) Dienst of Kahoka, MO; three grandsons: Russell (Julie) Dienst of Macomb, IL, Matt (Tassie) Dienst of O’Fallon, MO and Clayton (Kara) Dienst of Kahoka, MO; four great grandchildren, Darian and Noah Dienst and Alyssa and Owen Maples; nieces and nephews: Mary Koechle of Keokuk, IA, Charles (Barbara) Corr of Cedar Falls, IA, Earl Corr of Keokuk, IA, Virginia (Ronnie) Callison of Alexandria, MO and Eugene (Ann) Dienst of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Delbert and Robert Corr; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ellen Corr, Kermit Dienst, and Cleta and Herbert Egley; and a nephew, Harold Egley.

Wilma spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She enjoyed putting in a big garden and sewed many items for her neighbors and family. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies’ Aid and of the Missionary League. In her later years she was a familiar figure as she mowed her large acreage at her home east of Kahoka.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Lester Dumer officiating. Burial will follow in the Frazee Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. on Thursday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk or the Frazee Cemetery.

ANNA MARIE WISS

Anna Marie Wiss, age 87, of Kahoka, MO, entered quietly into heaven on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She passed away as a result of complications from a chronic neuro musculature disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Ann was born on September 18, 1928, in Lewistown, MO, a daughter of Omer and Emma Spath Turpin. She grew up on the family farm and loved playing high school basketball. Upon graduation from LaBelle High School, she attended Gem City Business College in Quincy. It was there that she would meet the love of her life and future husband, Bernard Joseph Wiss. The two were married on September 12, 1948, in Kahoka. They remained inseparable over the next sixty-one years until his passing in April of 2009.

In addition to her spouse, Anna was preceded in death by her siblings Vern, William, Wilbur, Harold and Virgil Turpin, Opal Zell,and a sister in infancy as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bob and Mary Curley, Walter Marty, Helen Turpin, Aurlyn B. Turpin, Rose Turpin, and Dick Zell.

Survivors include her five children: Kathy (Stanley) Welker and Jennifer (Dave) Riney, all of Kahoka, Mary (Todd) Drennan of Colorado Springs, CO, Teresa McKerrow of Columbia, MO and Greg (Veronica) Wiss of Mesquite, TX; eleven grandchildren: Stephanie (Bert) Slater and Amanda Welker, all of Canton, Matthew (Casie) Riney of Newton, IA, Peter (Kristin) Riney of Columbia, Sarah Riney of Independence, Rachel (Erik) Kirchner of Columbia, Patrick and Thomas Drennan, both of Colorado Springs, CO, Sara McKerrow of Dallas, TX, and Christian and Ashley Denning, both of Mesquite, TX; ten great-grandchildren: Sophia, Olivia and Isabella Slater, Alexandra and Jackson Riney, EmmaLee, Cole, and Lilli Riney, Matthew Denning and Preston Nelson; siblings: Geneva Marty, Mildred (Ted) Bogener, Erma (Bill)Wilkinson, and Russell (Beulah) Turpin; special friends: Dovie Passmore, Christy Oilar, Linda Morgan, Ruth St. Clair and Connie Kirchner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Ann was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and a good and faithful Catholic. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and of the Altar and Rosary Society. Her family was always her first priority. She was an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives. She and B. J. enjoyed attending many of their school activities. They also enjoyed traveling. Ann was an avid reader and an enthusiastic St. Louis Cardinal fan. Other hobbies included gardening, refinishing antique furniture, feeding her cardinals and other wild birds. Ann leaves behind many wonderful memories for her family and friends to cherish. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her loving husband.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring and compassionate nurses and physicians at Blessing Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kahoka, MO with Father Boniface officiating and Kristin Roth, Pastoral Administrator. Burial will follow in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. followed by a Rosary and Scripture Service.

Memorials are suggested to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, The Clark Co. Nutrition Site, or the H. E. Sever Memorial Library.

ROY MCSORLEY JR.

Roy McSorley

Mr. Roy Ray McSorley Jr., age 77, of Canton, MO passed away Monday, April 4, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born November 17, 1938 at Shelbina, MO a son of Roy Ray and Doris Perrigo McSorley Sr.. He married Martha Jo Rogers on May 9, 1970 in Canton. She survives.

Ray was a member of the Eagles Aerie #1800 of Canton, the NRA and the Communication Workers of America Union. He had worked 42 years for the telephone company and retired as the Central Office Technician. Ray was an Army Veteran serving from 1957-1959. He was of the Protestant faith and in years past he enjoyed going to the Rutledge and Colony Dog and Gun Auction, he also enjoyed collectables.

Survivors include his wife Jo of Canton; Son, Roy (Dana) McSorley of Canton; daughter, Lisa (Jerry) Webb of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Roy Ray McSorley IV of Canton and Addison Webb and Ty Webb of Kansas City, MO; special extended family member, Jessica Cain; three sisters, Marilyn Baker, of Shelbina, Billie Jean Grable of Shelbina and Carol Talbot of Eldon, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Judy Vanskike, Ruth Ann Grawe, Edith Buckman; one brother Raymond Audrey McSorley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:00 at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton with Pastor Brian Stone officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton. The family suggests memorials be made to the NRA for youth shooting sports in Missouri.

Jacob Creighton Nance, age 31, of Kahoka, MO, died early Sunday morning in a one vehicle accident west of Wayland, MO.

Jacob was born August 30, 1984 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Darrel and Rhonda Miller Nance.

Survivors include his parents, Darrel and Ronda Nance of Kahoka, MO and Rhonda Marsden and Weston Smith of Wyaconda, MO; his children, Cale and Alexys Nance of Cheyenne, WY; a brother, Cody Nance of Kahoka; a sister, Jessica (Michael) Holtzscher of Kansas City, MO; grandmothers: Mary Clem of Kahoka, Beverly Miller of Waverly, IA and Mary Cassady of Novinger, MO; aunts and uncles: Earl (Carrie) Nance and Gary Nance, all of Kahoka, MO; and Brenda Miller and Rodney Miller, both of Waverly, IA; as well as great aunts and uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Norman Nance and Ronald Miller.

Jacob was a 2003 graduate of Clark County R-1 High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in PE from Culver Stockton College. He played football in high school and represented Clark Co. R-1 in the East Game and in the Lion’s Club All-Star Game. He was a member of the Wildcats at Culver Stockton College for several years and following several concussions, coached the last two years. He was on the coaching staff at Clark Co. R-1 until this past year. He also played semi-pro football in Hannibal. Football was his passion and all he ever desired to do. He was also a talented and gifted artist.

Jacob was a former manager of Blimpies in Kahoka and the Sonic Restaurant in Keokuk. He suffered from health issues related to his concussions which were becoming more apparent.

He was devoted to the sport of football and enjoyed mentoring and encouraging his teams as well as his brother, Cody, whom he dearly loved. He enjoyed getting together with a group of friends and playing flag football on weekends. Jacob was a gentle giant with a heart of gold. He had a special bond with his sister, Jessica, and loved spending time with her and her husband, Michael.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with burial following in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Clark Co. Football Association.

Clark Eston Glasscock, age 89, of Edina, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016, in Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.

He was born February 19, 1927, in Ashton, MO the son of Wade Hampton and Amelia Ada Hopp Glasscock.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Marie Anthony on November 24, 1948, in Kahoka, MO and she preceded him in death on October 22, 2002. Clark was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Olin, Ovie, Fred and JC, and one sister Jewel Glasscock.

Surviving are two sons, Gary Glasscock and wife Sheree of Baring, MO and Mark Glasscock and wife Dana of Gorin, MO, one daughter Terri Jennings of Sedalia, MO, one sister Velma Hasenclever of Denmark, IA, eight grandchildren, Jared, Bethany, Zachary, Evangeline, and Evan Jennings, Eston Glasscock, Davye Heine, and Dakota Glasscock, eight great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Clark graduated from Clark County High School in Kahoka, MO. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He was engaged in farming for a number of years in the Wyaconda area. In 1957 he was employed for several years with Cushing Telephone, Co. and was later employed with Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone Company till his retirement. Clark was a member of the Crane Baptist Church at Crane, MO. Clark enjoyed wood carving, horses, and driving his mule team.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Pastor James Jennings will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Music will be provided by Evan Jennings.
Casket bearers will be Jared Jennings, Zachary Jennings, Evan Jennings, Eston Glasscock, Dakota Glasscock and Travis Heine.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 12 noon till time of services at 1 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.

Stephen Crowell

Stephen E. Crowell, 65, of Kahoka died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born April 6, 1951 in Keokuk, Iowa the son of Edward Lawrence and Betty LaVerna Waller Crowell.  On August 26, 1967 he was united in marriage to Patricia Louise Denning in Kahoka, Missouri.

Steve was employed with Climax in Ft. Madison, IA for sixteen years and retired in 2002.

He was a member of the Alexandria Baptist Church in Alexandria, Missouri.

Steve loved to go hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed watching TV especially racing and wrestling while eating ice cream.  Most of all he loved spending time with his family.  The time he spent with his family was priceless and the memories that were made will live on in their hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Crowell of Kahoka, two sons, William “Bill” (Jadonna) Crowell, Shawn (Becky) Crowell all of Medill, a daughter, Tina (Brian) Dunlap of Kahoka, twelve grandchildren, Amber, Andrew, Austin, Matthew, Brad, Ashley, Heather, Shawn Michael, Ryan, Joseph, Zack and Josh, two great grandchild, Serenity and Mercy, five brothers, Randy (Suzie) Crowell of Hamilton, B.J. (Diane) Crowell, Rolland Crowell, Duke (Kathy) Crowell and Dab (Colettea) Crowell all of Keokuk, with close friends, Jeff and Robin Soper, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Stephen & Sierra Crowell and close friend, Lawrence Edmondson.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka.  Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Monday with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nora Lee Crain, age 57, of LaBelle, Missouri, passed away April 7, 2016, in Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Nora was born in Kane, County, Illinois, on April 4, 1959, the daughter of Kenneth Leon and Beverley June Summers Crain.
Nora graduated from Highland High School in 1977. She was employed for several years at Prairie View Nursing Home at Lewistown, Missouri. She later received her C.N.A. Degree and worked in various locations in Quincy and Lewis County areas. She enjoyed cooking, flowers and her cats.
Surviving are one brother, Mike Crain of Lewistown, Missouri; two sisters, Tracy Hayes of LaBelle, Missouri, and Jo-Ann Schultz and husband, Russell, of Baring, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. Nora was preceded in death by her parents.
Nora wishes were to be cremated. Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Crain Family Cemetery west of Tolona, Missouri.  There will be no visitation.

Roxie Clapp

Roxie Gertrude Clapp, age 93, of Shelbina and formerly of LaBelle, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, in the Salt River Nursing Home in Shelbina, Missouri.

Born on  August 12, 1922, in Gorin, Missouri, Roxie was the daughter of Raymond Grier and Gertrude Gladys Tull Hays.   She was united in marriage with Harold Austin Clapp on July 27, 1945, at LaBelle, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2003.  Mrs. Clapp was also preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Andrew Clapp; and two sisters, Helen Lay and Blanche Likes.

Surviving are three children, Fredrick Harold Clapp and wife, Julie, of Memphis, Missouri, Jennifer Grace Parsons and husband, Tony, of Shelbina, Missouri, and Timothy Thomas Clapp and wife, Gina, of Macon, Missouri; two sisters, Margaret Lay of LaBelle, Missouri, and Elizabeth Shutts of Knox City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Adam (Courtney) Clapp, Kristine (Cody) Collins, Sarah (Jason) Ahten, Austin Clapp, and Katie Clapp; six great grandchildren, Vivian Clapp, Cecilia Clapp, Corbin Collins, Caster Collins, Khloe Ahten and Hadley Ahten; and several nieces and nephews.

Roxie graduated from LaBelle High School in 1941.  She attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri, and taught one year in a rural school.  She and her husband lived north of LaBelle where they were engaged in farming on the family farm which was established in 1844.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of LaBelle, where she was a youth Sunday school teacher and was a former 4-H leader and Extension Club member.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds, sewing and dearly loved her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2016, in the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri.    Jim Bilbro will officiate for the services.  Burial will be in the Deer Ridge Cemetery north of LaBelle, Missouri.

Musical selections will be “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “This World Is Not My Home”.

Casket bearers will be Austin Clapp, Adam Clapp, Jason Ahten, Cody Collins, Donnie Lay and Charles Shutts.

Visitation will be held after Thursday, April 14, 2016, after 4 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Coder Funeral chapel in LaBelle, MO.

Johnnie Shaver

Johnnie Russell Shaver, age 80 of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away early Monday morning, April 11, 2016 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Johnnie was born April 24, 1935, near Hurdland, Missouri, the son of Perley and Nina Letha (Stice) Shaver.

Surviving are three sisters, Mae Applegate of Leonard, Missouri, Margaret Parrish of Edina, Missouri and Shirley James of Durant, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, Eugene Howerton of Prosser, Washington; thirteen nieces and nephews and several great nieces and  great nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Howerton in 1976; an infant brother at birth; a nephew, Roger Applegate; and three brothers-in-law, Leon Applegate, Hubert Parrish and Richard James.

Johnnie was a 1953 graduate of the Hurdland High School.  He served his country in the United States Army during the German Occupation.  Johnnie was engaged in farming on the family farm south of Hurdland.  He was also employed at the Florsheim Shoe Factory in Kirksville, and later at Wal-Mart, also in Kirksville.    Johnnie was a member of the Hurdland United Methodist Church.  He tremendously enjoyed going on the Methodist Church missions building trips.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2016, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri, with Pastor Nancy Douglas officiating.  Music will be provided by The Moots Family and Friends with selections, “I Know Whom I Have Believeth” and “In The Garden”.

Burial with Military Honors will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Hurdland, Missouri.  Casket bearers will be Mike Applegate, Steve Applegate, Gary Applegate, Bryson Applegate, Evan Kelly and Glen Moots.

Visitation will be held after 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 15, 2016 until the time of services at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.

Richard Goodwin

Richard A. Goodwin, age 88, of rural Edina, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, surrounded by his family at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

Born on December 18, 1927, in Knox City, Missouri, Richard was the son of Clayton and Theresa Bruegenhemke Goodwin. On February 8, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Rimer in Edina, Missouri, and in February 2016, they celebrated 62 years of marriage.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Margaret Goodwin of Edina, Missouri; six children including, Diana (Michael) Beets of Kirksville, Missouri, Kevin (Sherry) Goodwin of Edina, Missouri, Pam Richmond of Kirksville, Missouri, Theresa (Paul) Mihalevich of Columbia, Missouri, Virginia (Ken) Halterman of Kirksville, Missouri, and Stacy (Cary) Barrows of Smithville, Missouri; one brother, Kenneth (Marilyn) Goodwin of Edina, Missouri, and three sisters including, Betty Klote of Columbia, Missouri, Reta Smith of Moberly, Missouri, and Lois Ann Rice of Kirksville, Missouri; and fourteen grandchildren including, Dr. Richard (Rick) Limbert, Nicole Oberkirsch, Brandon Goodwin, Nathan Goodwin, Brandi Schulte, Ashlie Vincent, Heather Mihalevich, Zachary Mihalevich, Taylor McDowell, Travis Halterman, Trent Halterman, Megan Barrows, Madison Barrows, and Brett Barrows; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a step-father Joseph Marra, and a great-grandson, Damian Michael Schulte.

Richard received his education in Knox County rural schools and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to being honorably discharged. He was awarded the Korean Service medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Camp Star, and Overseas Service bar.

An avid outdoorsman and nature lover, he was engaged in farming all his life in rural Edina. Richard was an active member of Edina’s St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and he served as a past board member of Baring Country Club. Richard was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed spending time on the family farm bird and train watching, putting together jigsaw puzzles, watching St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, and playing board and card games (especially pitch). Above all else, Richard loved spending quality time together with his family, friends, and his canine companion, Toby .For the past four and one-half years, Richard was a Knox County Nursing Home resident where he was known for his warmth and sense of humor.

A prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m-8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held 11 AM, Thursday, April 14, 2016, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, MO. Father Collin Franklin will officiate services and burial with full military honors at Edina’s St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Clayton Parker

Clayton Jon Parker, age 28, of Luray, MO, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016, in the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia, MO following a massive brain bleed the preceding day.

Clayton was born May 1, 1987 in Quincy, IL, a son of John and LaDonna Worrell Parker.

Survivors include his parents of Luray, MO; his grandfather, Don Worrell, of Kahoka, MO; two brothers, Shaun (P.J.) Parker of Luray, MO and Marcus Parker of Plano, TX; his niece and nephew, Harrison and Grace Parker of Luray, MO; aunts and uncles: Steve Parker of Luray, MO, Mary (Steve) Wilson of Kahoka, MO, Roger (Tessie) Arntzen of Jacksonville, FL, and Lary Fountain of Kahoka, MO; his cousins and their families: Katie Franke of Wellington, KS, Dustin (Jade) Parker of Media, IL, Michelle (Chris) Ebeling of Wyaconda, MO, Jamie (Jay) Perry of Kahoka, MO, Jeff Arntzen of Kahoka, MO, Scott (Loran) Arntzen of Davis, CA, Tami Carter of Quincy, IL and Sheri Ankeney of West Des Moines, IA; as well as other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Clara Parker and LaVera Worrell; step grandmother, Fern Worrell; aunt, Janet Fountain; and cousins, Tony Fountain and David Parker.

Clayton was a 2005 graduate of Clark County R-1 High School and a 2009 graduate of Truman State University, receiving a degree in Political Science. While in high school, Clayton was a member of Campus Bowl and Clark Co. R-1 Marching Indians, and had attended Boy’s State and the J. Baldwin Academy, following in his big brothers’ footsteps.

Clayton had a mind that was always “going” in several directions and was a talented debater. He was a staunch Democrat and his love for politics led him to Truman State and to the jobs that followed as Field Director for campaigns in various states with various politicians.

Clayton had a smile and personality that enveloped many throughout his brief life. He enjoyed many friendships through his early years in the Clark County school district, and through his membership at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka that remained a vital part of his life. He was an avid lover of music and of movies, many which he could quote verbatim.

At his families’ request, Clayton’s organs were harvested and have already been received and have given new life to the recipients. Cremation followed.

A Memorial Service was held Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka with Pastor Dixie Laube officiating. Special music was recordings by Rev. Kenneth Beckmann who confirmed Clayton, “Hallelujah” by Celtic Thunder, “The Old Rugged Cross” sung by 12 year old Clayton Parker and his aunt, Janet Fountain, at his grandfather Parker’s service; “Amazing Grace” composed and recorded by Ryan Christian, “Go Now in Peace” congregational hymn led by H L Plenge accompanied by Robert Dooley on the organ. Processional hymn was “Amazing Grace” by James Horner for Star Trek followed by “Friends” by Robert Dooley on the piano and “The Old Rugged Cross’' by H L Plenge on the organ. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Ashton Cemetery.

Visitation was held at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka after 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, with family receiving friends from 5-8 p.m.

Memorials were suggested to the Ashton Cemetery or the St. Paul United Church of Christ.

Michael Perry McClanahan, 58, of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The son of Aaron Charles and Lillie Mae (Collins) McClanahan Sr., Mike was born August 5, 1957 in Sperry, Missouri. On April 17, 1980 in Hurdland, Missouri, Michael was united in marriage to Jeanie Culler.

Michael is survived by his wife Jeanie of thirty-six years; his daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Jeff Baird of Novinger, MO; two brothers and a sister-in-law Charlie and Elizabeth McClanahan of Millard, MO and Clyde McClanahan of Columbia, MO; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Coleene and Leon Johnson of Hallsville, MO, Margaret and Harold Quint of Kirksville, MO, Barbara and James Smith of Tallahassee, FL, and Leisa and Mike Jones of Livonia, MO; step-sister, Coleene
Cox of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren, Dake Bradley and Lexi Baird; numerous nieces and nephews, and his very special black cocker spaniel, Emerson Lee McClanahan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Randy Johnson and Rick Johnson.

Michael received his education in the Kirksville public schools. He then served in the United States Marine Corp and after being honorably discharged returned home and worked for Esterline Motors several years. Michael was employed seventeen years at Florsheim Shoe Factory until attending and receiving his HVAC Certificate in 2001. He last owned and operated his own businesses, McClanahan Heating & Cooling, L.L.C. and McClanahan Property Rentals, L.L.C. in Hurdland.

Michael enjoyed fishing, hunting with his grandson, and loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered by being the McClanahan family jokester and entertainer.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with Glen Moots presiding. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Refuge Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John McCarty, Kris McCarty, Kevin Whittom, Tom Boatman, Randall Shahan and Troy Sizemore. Honorary pallbearers will be Luther Green, Mike Baird, Kevin Barid, and Randy Craig.

Florence Janney

Mrs. Florence Adelaide Janney, age 97 of Gainesville, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016 at the residence of her grandson and his fiancé, Lisa Aiello following a brief illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Newark Christian Church in Newark, Missouri.  Reverend Jesse Rogers will officiate for the services.  Music will be provided by Lotus Wiseman.

Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm, prior to the service, at the church.

Mrs. Janney was born July 29, 1918 in Newark, Missouri to the late Victor Rudd and Blanche Paschke Rudd.

She was united in marriage to Delmar Leroy Janney on July 2, 1939, and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1999.

She was a homemaker, retired school teacher and PEO member.  Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, D. L. Janney, her son, Larry Janney, and her sister, Janice Nettleton.

Mrs. Janney is survived by grandchildren Greg Janney (Lisa Aiello) of Gainesville and Deanna Jill (James Harvey) Vice of Ball Ground, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Caleb Janney of Gainesville, Eli Janney of Gainesville, Ashley Janney of Atlanta, Elijah Janney of Winder, Deanna Steedley of Ball Ground, Georgia, James Vice II of Ball Ground, Georgia and Autumn Vice of Ball Ground, Georgia; step-granddaughter, Melinda Sedevic of Florida; and nieces, Vicki Johnston of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Sandra Nettleton of Denver, Colorado.

Wilma L. St. Clair, age 86, of Kahoka, MO, died Thursday, April 14, 2016 in the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia, MO following a fall the preceding day.

Wilma was born July 23, 1929 in Wyaconda, MO, a daughter of Roscoe and Merle Bourgeois Colvin.

She graduated from Wyaconda High School and received a Teacher’s Certificate from Kirksville State Teacher’s College. Prior to her marriage she taught at Boston and Fairview rural schools near Williamstown.

On November 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to David E. St. Clair in rural Williamstown by the Rev. Ivan Kull. Dave preceded her in death on November 13, 2015.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris St. Clair-Anderson of Nixa, MO and Jeannette (Gary) Roberts of Burlington, IA; five grandchildren: Renee Anderson of Ozark, MO, Megan (Allan) Kleinkopf of Burlington, IA, Dallas E. (Adrienne) St. Clair of Granger, IA, Elizabeth (Justin) Long of Burlington, IA and Betsy (Allen) DeMois of Holts Summit, MO; six great grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Becky) Colvin of Wyaconda, MO; two sisters, Veva Kearns of Canton, MO and Margaret (Kenny) Clark of Quincy, IL; sister-in-law, Virginia St. Clair of Kahoka, MO; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Loyd and Ruth Barber St. Clair; her husband; one son, Darrell E. St. Clair on February 12, 2012; and a sister, Louise Venghous.

Following her marriage to Dave in 1950, Wilma was a homemaker and help mate the rest of her life. She loved cooking, cleaning and sharing special meals and snacks with her family as well as caring for her beautiful flowers and watching the cardinals outside her window. Special to her grandchildren were coffee breaks with pumpkin pie and chocolate chip cookies. Wilma was 14 when she was saved and baptized during vacation Bible School at New Woodville. Her faith was the only thing more important than her family.

Wilma was a past member of the Clark County Historical Society and a 50 year member of the American Cancer Society Board of Directors. As a member of the Wyaconda Red Hatters, she enjoyed the weekly fellowship with her friends there.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastor Frank Whitney officiating assisted by Pastor Dean Tomlinson. Special music was recordings by Alan Jackson: “In the Garden” and “I Wanna Stroll Over Heaven”. Additional special music, “How Great Thou Art” was provided by Renee Anderson.

Honorary Pallbearers were Lacey St. Clair, Jim and Lori Lorigan, Marc Colivin, Greg Colvin, George Steele, Lynn St. Clair and the Wyaconda Red Hatters.

Pallbearers were Neil Brown, Dennis Briscoe, Dallas St. Clair, Tim St. Clair, Mike St. Clair and Randy Justice.

Burial was in the New Woodville Cemetery south of Wyaconda.

Visitation was held held at Wilson Funeral Home after 10 am. Sunday with family receiving friends from 4-7 p.m.

Memorials were suggested to the New Woodville Cemetery or the American Cancer Society.

  Georgeann Epperson, age 86, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Ewing, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016 at 4:05 a.m., in Good Samaritan Home in Quincy.

  Georgeann came into this world July 4, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Archie L. and Iva B. O’Dear Spidle of LaBelle, Missouri. She married Richard Epperson on March 20, 1953 at the First Christian Church in La Belle, Missouri. Together they had two daughters, Carolyn S. (Jack) Ball and Shirley A. Robertson, both of Quincy.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Sarah (Kyle) Littlefield of Greenville, Illinois, David Ball of Chicago, Illinois, and Anna Robertson of Quincy; two great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Samantha Littlefield of Greenville, Illinois; one brother, Stanley Spidle of Brookfield, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews. Georgeann was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Richard on November 27, 1993.

For many years Georgeann along side her husband Richard touched many lives as funeral directors at the Ball-Coder Funeral Home in Ewing, Missouri. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Ewing, and the Order of the Eastern Star as well as serving as a board member for the Senior Housing in Ewing. She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, quilting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was also an excellent seamstress, quilter and crafter. She was also known for her crocheted name plaques that many people have hanging in their homes and the clothing she made and altered for friends and family

Graveside services and burial will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at the LaBelle Cemetery in La Belle, Missouri, with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing, Missouri.

The family suggests memorials be made to Washington University School of Medicine Neurofibromatosis Center.

Wilma Bader

Mrs. Wilma A. Bader, age 100, of Canton, MO passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Lewis County Nusing Home in Canton, MO.

She was born July 17, 1915 in Canton a daughter of Joseph Wm. and Alice Maria Bradrick Honaker. She married Hilburn W. Bader on October 20, 1935 in Canton. He died September 25, 1990.

At the age of 13, shortly after her mothers death, Wilma moved to town and lived with Dr. and Mrs. Sam Lillard, helping to raise their two infant daughters. She attended and graduated from Canton High School. She and her husband were married shortly after graduation. They owned and operated Bader Sinclair Service were she attended to the bookkeeping. She then worked at the telephone office as an operator and later for Mrs. Gross in the Jewelry Store. Eventually she started working at Canton State Bank where she remained until her retirement in 1983. After retiring from the Bank, Wilma began answering the phone and assisting with visitations and funerals at the Davis Funeral Home. At the age of 95 she moved to Columbia, MO and lived with her granddaughter, Alyce, until her recent move to the nursing home. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Larry W. (Carole) Bader of Columbia, daughters, Vicki V. (Kent) Leftwich of Canton and Jani L. (Aubrey) Moncrief of Osage Beach, MO; six grandchildren, Alyce (Jim) Cooley of Columbia, Eric (Katie) Bader of St. Charles, MO, Todd (Denise) Leftwich of Canton, Greg (Jennifer) Leftwich of Palmyra, MO, Ian (Alexa) Moncrief of Seattle, WA and Drew (Stephanie) Moncrief of Strawberry Plains, TN; great grandchildren, Jordan and Brooke Cooley, Davis and Jesse Bader, Bailey, Taylor and Gage Leftwich, Grayson, Indy Fox, Cannon and Nora Moncrief; sister in law, Pat Honaker of Loveland, CO and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, Elizabeth Mayes, Henrietta Dehner, Carolyn Barnes, Frances Smith, Virginia Knight and two brothers, Bill and Hughes Honaker.

Private family graveside services and burial will be held Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton.

Roger Scott

Roger William Scott, age 63, of LaBelle, Missouri passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Roger was born April 26, 1952 in Edina, Missouri, the son of Mike and Geraldine (Myers) Scott.  On June 17, 1989, he was united in marriage to Tammy Freeman.

Surviving are his wife, Tammy of LaBelle, Missouri; one son, Justin Scott, also of LaBelle, Missouri, and one daughter, Jaclyn Scott of the home; a brother, Frank (Diana) Scott of LaPlata, Missouri; and several nieces and cousins.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Jerry Ray Scott.

Roger graduated from Knox County High School in 1970, and was also a graduate of University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri.  He was an agriculture education teacher at Highland High School in Lewis County for several years and also taught at Knox County High School in Edina until his retirement.

Roger currently held the office of Alderman for the City of LaBelle and was the President of the Lewis County Fire Protection District.  He was a supporter of local 4-H and was a volunteer 4-H leader. Roger was also a member of the LaBelle Saddle Club.  He was an avid supporter of the Northeast Missouri Food Bank from its beginning and was a regular volunteer.  Roger loved people and currently enjoyed his position at Casey’s in LaBelle where he could visit with friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO.  Burial will follow at LaBelle Cemetery in LaBelle, Missouri.  Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2016 at Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri.  Memorials may be made to the Jaclyn Scott College Fund.  Memorials may be left at or mailed to Coder Funeral Chapel, PO Box 151, LaBelle, Missouri 63447.

Lawrence Nichols

Lawrence E. Nichols, 83 of Canton, Missouri died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.

The son of Rueben and Viva Brookhart Nichols was born on July 1, 1932 at Williamstown, Missouri.

Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an automotive technician for Lewis County Motors in Canton, Missouri and Honda in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had a passion for restoring old cars especially Model A’s and Model T’s.

He is survived by a brother, Ralph Nichols & wife Sandra of Williamstown, Mo.; half-sister, Karen Bradshaw & husband Ralph of Williamstown, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and three special friends, Bob Tuley, Vincel Bronstine and Mike & Noma Genck all of Canton, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Maxine Nichols; infant sister, Rachel; brother, Harold Nichols; sister, Sarah Smallwood and an infant niece, Brenda Lee.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Jim Campbell officiating. Burial with military honors by Herman Blum Post #192 and Ayer-Boatman VFW Post# 4342 will be in the Ballard Cemetery near Neeper, Missouri.

Visitation will be held Sunday after 1:30 PM until the time of services at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton.

Memorials may be made to the Ballard Cemetery Association.

Gary Berry Sr.

Gary Lee Berry, Sr. 68, of Kahoka, formerly of Canton died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the LaBelle Manor Care Center in LaBelle, MO.

He was born August 27, 1947 the son of Elmer Lee and Elizebeth Thompsaphine Blakely Berry in Fairfield, IA.

Gary was an over the road truck driver and drove many miles. Before he retired in 2007 he owned Hickory Hollow Express, and worked at Campbell Trucking, and Drillion Trucking.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and listening to good bands. He loved watching old westerns, many types of music, he would often sit and listen to the radio for hours over watching television. He especially enjoyed going to truck and tractor pulls, dirt track racing and mud boggs. He always enjoyed being around children right up till the end a small child would put a smile on his face. (He was probably thinking how he could spoil them before they went back to their parents.) Always a giving man, he would give the shirt off his back to help someone out.

He is survived by a son, Gary Berry, Jr. of Kahoka, two daughters, Shelia Berry of St. Petersburg, FL and Shelly (Nathan) Ross of Cedar Rapids, IA, seven grandchildren, Bryan Howren, Sydney Howren, Shayla Berry, Sara Childress-McMillion, Triston Cain, Shane Ross and Cheyenne Witt, three great grandchildren, Halo Berry, Daylynn Llyod and Landon McMillion, two brothers, Michael (Donna) Walker of Godfrey, IL and Butch Slocum of West Branch, IA, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation and a gathering of remembrance will be held Saturday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with the family meeting with friends at that time.
